Do we know how many stages we're looking at this year? I counted out the band slots over the last few years, and it's feeling like we might be looking at five stages. Maybe 4 alternating 'main' stages and 1 smaller side-stage?

I suppose you could arguably squeeze it all onto 4 stages, but that would feel pretty tight.

Don't forget the food vendors and (maybe?) Riot Fest Speaks. The latter seems like it might be particularly relevant this year... I wouldn't be surprised if, in addition to the aftershows, they announce a screening of that Jawbreaker documentary along with the festival (a la Filmage from a few years ago).

    That'd be cool

And as for your stage theory I thought it looked a little lighter this year. I guess 5 would make sense

I think if it's 5 stages it's more likely to be 2 main stages, two separate stages and one small stage (so basically the same layout as last year but instead of 2 alternating small stages just one). Or even more likely 2 alternating main stages, 2 alternating small stages, and one other mid sized stage.

Someone needs to record the full set of Wu tang Clan performing 36 Chambers

I would live stream it, but it would probably be too shaky on account of me losing my mind to it

I had the thought of the 2 smaller stages run through my mind, but looking at the bands and thinking about who they usually have on those smaller stages? It didn't look like they'd have enough bands.

I'm wondering if it might be two alternating main stages, one stand-alone main stage, and a side stage each day. That could be about right.

Let's hold our breath until we disappear

Danzig performing How the Gods Kill has skyrocketed into my #1 must see set of the weekend.

Not sure if I'll even be able to get tickets to Fall Out Boy, but if I can, I'd definitely opt out for that over Queens of the Stone Age or Wu-Tang Clan, personally. You could probably leave the festival at around 7:45, get there around 8, and be in the venue in time for FOB, and then go to an aftershow. That would be really awesome.

Part of me is leaning towards this, but I really want to see QOTSA. I could also see them in Milwaukee though, it just wouldn't be quite as cool as at Riot Fest. It also kind of depends on what the other thing they're doing in Chicago is.

To be honest, if I wasn't going with a group of friends that wanted to see them, I would leave before they went on. That's why I was so happy this worked out so well.

Yeah, kinda has the vibe of a replacement or something. Just feels really odd to be like "Daily line-ups... And also? Danzig. Again."

Saw something on Timeout Chicago that said they'd be "debuting their new album MANIA." It also says you need to open some sort of TicketMaster account in order to join a lottery to be randomly selected for an opportunity to purchase tickets.

Hello. From the UK and coming for this year's festival. Is there any must-know information about it? Never been before - or to any US festivals.

Seen people talking about aftershows - how do they work? Bands from the festival play late-night at a different venue in town?

Also these are the bands I'm planning on seeing. If anyone has any recommendations based on these, I would love to hear them. Bold are my favourites.

Friday: Buzzcocks, Story So Far, Hotelier
Saturday: Lawrence Arms, Bayside, Streetlight Manifesto, Cockney Rejects, Smith Street Band
Sunday: Jawbreaker, Paramore, Pennywise, Bosstones, Menzingers, Hot Water Music, Beach Slang, Flatliners, Mad Caddies.

That is exactly what the after shows are (although there is usually at least one onthe Thursday before). Sometimes they are at venues that are much smaller than what the band would normally play, which is pretty cool if you can get a ticket. You need to buy extra tickets for the after shows though. They usually are announced in August or so I believe.

  21. Menzingers are playing a show in Philly on that Saturday so if they do an after show it'd have to be that Sunday night - fingers still crossed!

Damn an aftershow for Menz definitely doesn't seem likely then. If it was Sunday that'd be awesome though

  24. So they'd play in Chicago, go back to Philly, then go back to Chicago again? Weird. I always figured the after shows were done because it'd be convenient since they're already in town.

They're going to do an aftershow on Thursday, fly back to Philly for a show on Saturday, and then fly back to Chicago for a show on Sunday? Seems mighty difficult logistically lol.

Also, seems like the Menz will definitely be getting a later time slot this time around because of it. Re: them opening at 11:45 AM at Riot 2014.
