Anyone have good staple bluegrass album recs? As far as I know, all I've ever heard is:

- One late career Ralph Stanley album
- Steve Martin's first banjo record
- Dolly Parton and Dwight Yoakam's bluegrass albums
- The last Trampled by Turtles
- A pair of Nickel Creek albums
- Two Alison Krauss records
- One Rhonda Vincent album

I grew up in a Southern Gospel family. I'm full of recs like that haha

 

Punch Brothers, Crooked Still, Bela Fleck, Donna the Buffalo, Sarah Jarosz, Doc Watson, Earl Scruggs, Aaron O'Rourke

 

Not sure about genre staples, but a few more recent ones I've liked from the past year or so are:

Sierra Hull - Weighted Mind
The Infamous Stringdusters - Laws of Gravity
Sarah Jarosz - Undercurrent (this one is borderline folk, but has bluegrass elements)

 

Yeah Sarah Jarosz is fantastic

 

I forgot about Doc. His self-titled is unreal.

 

I showed my dad Pinegrove and he showed me that Infamous Stringdusters album. Thought it was pretty good.

 

I don't want to interrupt this thread but I have a need to express how much I hate the way Brandon Flowers sings Mr. Brightside. I've always hated that song because of how monotone and grating on my ears his voice is there.

I'm also not a Killers fan to start with, although they sound like a band that would be right up my alley, so it's extra weird to me how much I hate that song/don't like that band.

 

dunno if this is unpopular but I think Laura Stevenson is one of the best songwriters currently working and Wheel is my favourite album of the 2010s so far

 

Yeah she's great and Anais Mitchell is one of the most underrated songwriters of this generation

 

adult bar rock might be my least favorite genre of music

I love Mr. Brightside, but I think it's more due to nostalgia than anything else.
