I hear you. I'm not too upset about it, but it seemed like Nora and Kevin were actually pretty terrible for each other (What will we tell the physicists part hit the nail on the head).

I saw all the shit in that break down, but it appears as though the creators did not purposefully construct that reality and if we perceive it that way, it is through our own convincing.

 

This has risen into the top tier of all-time HBO shows for me. Belongs up there with The Sopranos, The Wire, and Deadwood.

Yeah I think that was the point of the nun scene.
Sometimes a story is better than the truth and she was testing Kevin to see if he finally accepted how she coped.

If she isn't lying about going to the other side i'd be surprised

 

I wish all of this was truly deliberate. I feel empowered to make my own decision - but I also would respect the fuck out of the attention to detail and intent on the part of the creators. More importantly, I just wish I had more of this fucking show.

im happy with the show ending here. It sounds like Damon went with the quality not quantity approach and it 100% showed

 

I think the finale was a perfect ending for this season, but not a perfect ending for the show as a whole. And not because it didn't answer all my questions, but as was mentioned before thematically I feel this season didn't really encapsulate the ideas of the show as a whole.

Basically, I wish we had one more season to tie the previous 3 together.

I wonder why HBO stuck it out and gave Damon so much leeway...even with poor ratings. Are they going for cool points? If so...they succeeded

 

I think because it was a critical darling HBO was hoping they can get a few awards out of it.

 

I haven't really been reading any of the articles posted here but just wanted to check in and say I still believe Nora because it's a fucking cool story

overall the series was a loss and bullshit because we never saw that dong but whatever

 

I've actually purposely avoided any articles/real discussion/analysis for now because I just want to keep believing in Nora :(

id like to pretend we live in a world where hbo renewed it because they thought it was actually amazing..and they did it for the art :)

 

HBO maintaining the prestige reputation of having "great" shows is more important to their business model than actual ratings.

 

Also this show will probably be on a ton of 'Greatest Shows of All Time' lists in the future, which will drive people to check it out on HBO Now

 

It also helps them secure future shows over other networks. Being able to say that they gave shows like The Leftovers and The Newsroom an extra season, regardless of reasons, is good ammo for reasoning to go with HBO rather than network or otherwise

 

A little over 1 million people watched the finale. That's the highest ratings it's had since the season 1 finale.
