The hate for Long Lost Feeling and Bottom of the Ocean is weird when they're two of the better songs on the deluxe disc.

BOTO is the only one I haven't heard now I think except for a clip, but I'm seriously disregarding opinions of anyone that thinks Feeling is bad from here on out.

Yeah, the DLX runs at about 36 minutes while the OG runs 42. Even the DLX feels long to me. I enjoy it for what it is, but I agree that they've gone about as far as they can go with this and need to do something different next cycle. Kudos to them though for returning to prominence with a successful album.

FUCKIN SAVAGES IN THAT FUCKIN BOX Prestigious

If I condensed down to one album right now:

    Cynical
    Bored To Death
    Good Old Days
    Los Angeles
    Sober
    Last Train Home
Home Is Such A Lonely Place
    Teenage Satellites
    Misery
    San Diego
    Hey I'm Sorry
    6-8
    Don't Mean Anything
    Left Alone
    Long Lost Feeling

Bottom Of The Ocean still to be reviewed. Teenage Satellites is my last song on as of right now. I'll have to playlist this one on Friday to mess around with it.

I want to make these 'perfect California' lists.....but I have such a hard time deciding what I would drop and what I would add. I mean really the only ones I can for sure say i would nix are KoTW and California. But I still like those songs, and there's more than 2 songs on the deluxe I'd add.

"Bottom of the Ocean" is a highlight for me personally. My guess is this album was just an introduction - so of course they played it safe. The next album they'll more than likely play it safe - but start a subtle change. The third album with Skiba will be like another untitled experimentation wise. Just my feeling. It could be completely wrong.

    New California tracklist:

    Cynical
    Bored to Death
    Good Old Days
    Sober
    Don't Mean Anything
    Hey I'm Sorry
Home Is Such a Lonely Place
    Kings of the Weekend
    Teenage Satellites
    Left Alone
    Long Lost Feeling
    San Diego
    The Only Thing That Matters
    California

Pretty solid album (though the end of LLF into the beginning of San Diego is kinda rough).

lol none of these are going to radio what the hell?

Matt himself: "I had a lot of input on songs. Let me talk about it ..."

This thread: he's lying cause I don't like a song! Marks fault! johns fault!

Matt: seriously I changed how I thought about music and really wanted to write these..

Thread: SHUTUP MATT YOU HAVE NO AGENCY IN YOUR DECISIONS I KNOW WHAT HAPPENED BEST

    :-p

  13. But you don't have any clue who wrote most or what part of the songs! You're literally guessing based on just pure fantasy in your head!

    This is so stupid.

  14. Check out 'Collapsable Lung' ... heh. Most of those are from Matt's rejected sessions with others including AM. Hahha. No one wanted that. :)

Anywho. Whoever before said Don't Mean Anything was Good Charlotte x Simple Plan? Hot damn you nailed that! Sure is!

  18. You do. It's how I know to skip over your posts with one glance. B-)

  19. My vinyl finally shipped and it'll be here tomorrow so here's hoping I get a gold record. Didn't even know it was a thing until today. Would rather have gotten the MH bass last year. Anyone in here get it? The threadplosion was too much for me last year I ducked out.

Wildfire's invocation of "Heaven's Gate" in the lyrics always brings to mind the religious suicide cult in what's supposed to be a fun and light song so that's a weird dissonance between tone and unintentional imagery.

Same here. I've actually loved that one since I first heard it (despite the similarities to "Bored to Death" at the beginning). Probably one of the more emotional and beautiful songs on the record, and the melodies get stuck in my head. It just feels very natural.

And I totally agree with your sentiment about a big breakout part being predictable. Reading page after page of this thread, and I feel like that is a common occurrence. People complain that they need to think outside of the box and try something new, but when they write something in a slightly different style like this or "Bottom of the Ocean", it's "forced".

If someone doesn't like the songs simply because they don't enjoy them, that's perfectly fine. But at the same time, I don't think a lot of people actually know what would make them happy at this point. I'm kind of in the same boat.

Finally got to listen to the album and I did three times. I like it. I don't think it's better than the original California album but it is an easier listen if that makes sense. Probably because it's shorter and it doesn't feel like there are any filler songs like there was on California. My top favorites are probably Misery, Good Old Days, Hey I'm Sorry and Long Lost Feeling. But there aren't any songs that I would say I hate or won't listen to again. Even songs like Parking Lot and Wildfire sounded better as part of a full album listen instead of listening to individually when they were released.

Hopefully this concludes the California chapter of blink and the band moves onto a different sound/direction for the next album.

  24. Ya it's crazy how much more I like the songs in context of the complete dlx album. I actually really like the sequencing on the dlx

Yup even a song like Hey I'm Sorry which I liked when I first heard it last year, I just like it a lot more now that it's part of a full album and not a bonus song if that makes sense.
