I still don't see what's wrong with that. To me, good songs are good songs and bad songs are bad songs, I really feel like quality should supersede any qualms about who wrote whatever.

That BTD Remix was the most miserable thing that's every happened to Blink-182. Glad that shit is not on this DLX version.

Blink has specifically aimed to have hits and be on the radio since Tom wrote All The Small Things

I don't oppose them on principle, co-writes can certainly bring out something awesome. but I would enjoy seeing co-writes with their friends, and less the hired songwriters (not that this can't be good either). I just think it's cooler and more fun for me as a fan, like when Rivers wrote with Tyson of AAR. Or Andrew McMahon co-writing with Matt Thiessen (hell I'd take a whole album of that).

  8. But at least that felt more natural.

  9. Bottom of the Ocean had a co-writer. That is song is garbage and feels like it's just that RCA dude's song with Blink singing and playing a little bit over it. That's what I dislike. When co-writing becomes the actual band being more like the co-writers.

I would say it's an identity crisis, mainly. Even just this thread alone is a good example of the diversity of what everyone wants from them and are pulling them in all different directions.

They're in the public eye more than those bands you listed but they're also aligned close to those groups than ATL or someone like that. Some fans wanted a throwback pop album, some fans wanted a throwback punk album, some wanted Untitled part 2. Some wanted Skiba to have a bigger role, and some will never be happy without Tom. As big of a fan as I am, I don't even have an answer of what I want a blink-182 album to sound like in 2017.

It's easy to say "write more creative songs and get rid of Feldmann" but at the same time....their tours are wildly successful and their album was Grammy-nominated. I don't really know how to argue with their direction.

completely aware of that. I mentioned him as an example because I liked that they brought him in.

This thread reminds me a lot of a quote from either @Jason Tate or Jesse Cannon in the podcast a couple months ago - something to the effect of "If you like music, you just like it. But when you don't like it, everyone feels the need to ascribe it to some external factor, like 'they're just trend-hopping' or 'they're just doing this to get a hit' instead of 'oh, I just don't like this.'"

  13. So what are the odds the next Trio album blows this stuff away ?

Co-writing can encompass a wide variety of things.

IIRC Pat Stump only came up with the line, "I'm a dandelion, you're a four leaf clover". or maybe a different one. but it was just one line.

I wish more blink songs ventured out like Bottom of the Ocean (which is growing on me)

Watch Trio get Feldman to produce.

  16. I can agree with that, and I definitely do it. I'm just bummed that I'm realizing my favorite band of the last 20 years doesn't write music I like or connect with anymore.

this is fair. I definitely don't think professional co-writers take away from the song for me. I still judge it based on the song itself. I thoroughly enjoy California regardless of the co-writers. but I don't think there's anything wrong with people wanting to see songs written solely by the three musicians they're big fans of either. I think it's fair on both ends.

I mean, when it comes down to it I think I mostly agree with the sentiments you're both expressing - something they're doing isn't working especially well.

  22. I agree. And I don't base my opinion the co-written songs on who did it and what they've done in the past. I made the post of who co-wrote on these new deluxe songs because I thought it was interesting and no one had mentioned it yet. But bad songs are bad songs and good songs are good songs, for sure, doesn't matter who wrote on it.

  23. It's like... a lot of these songs are just so underdeveloped or something. I don't know.

Neighborhoods was underdeveloped, under produced, and sounded like demos of what could be pretty great songs.
California is like underdeveloped, over produced, glorified demos. Instead of saying "no" to some songs, they just ran with every little idea they had and forced an entire song out of it.
