I hope they don't somehow take this as a "fuck maybe we shouldn't quite do this style of music for another album". Like they don't seem like the type to, but I'm always afraid when something like this happens to an album I really love .

I don't follow sales much so I'd have had no idea what numbers to anticipate but I don't feel surprised at all. Even if ain't it fun didn't perfectly fit the pop climate at the time I think it's a way more accessible track for casual fans than either of these singles, especially Hard Times. It may be poppy but I can't imagine hearing the painfully awkward "hard times" chorus chants on the radio.

Yeah, I don't think they made good single choices.

For what it's worth, I feel like I've heard Hard Times get a pretty solid amount of radio time thus far

Hard Times also seems to be doing good on streaming services. It has 20+ million steams on Spotify. As a reference, the new Fall Out Boy song has <6 million, and I would ordinarily think FOB was the bigger band there. I just bought a copy on Amazon today since I haven't had a chance to go to the store and get it. Maybe I'll buy it on iTunes too... haha

I think the album will have a steady life as Hard Times catches onto radio more and more. Aint It Fun took its sweetass time becoming as big as it got.

I wouldn't expect this either, but what does one do when your brand of pop doesn't work and your original genre is out of style. Do we get another chainsmokers album?

I mean they pretty much reinvented themselves on S/T, and then again on After Laughter, so I don't see why we wouldn't expect them to make a different kind of record the next go around. I also think it's a little pre-emptive to say that this isn't working for them. Especially in a singles driven music industry - it really just takes one hit for the public to remember them.

If this band hasn't earned the benefit of the doubt from their fans yet, I'm not sure what they'd have to do

I mean even if first week sales are disappointing they'll be okay in the long run. I'd love to see them score another mega-hit but even if they don't I have no doubt that they'll see a successful cycle.

Yea I should clarify that I'm really just talking about in terms of their mainstream success. Fans will still turn out at the shows and will keep this album alive and well for years.

If this band can send a boat full of fans to the Bahamas and back I think they'll be just fine / have the confidence of themselves and their label to survive just fine even if sales the first week aren't exactly what they expected.

And in this day and age, what is expected for albums sales anymore?

Now I'm just getting excited thinking about Parahoy again. I really hope I can pull it off.

  20. If they were focused on first week sales they woulda done a way different roll out. They actively shunned press beside like a few huge pubs and sent out no advances to anyone. That + a quick release turn around shows they weren't aiming for big first week numbers.

I'd imagine the second single gets a push.

Damn, I wish I was able to go to parahoy next year. However, Ill be in like the 4th month of a job that I will most likely start in January, so I don't want to take off a week so soon. Maybe 2019...

  22. This album will have legs. Hard Times probably still hasn't peaked in popularity
