Glad Blashill finally is letting Smith play... Smith has been arguably the best Red Wings defenseman all year (Dekeyser was great, too), but for whatever reason he is always scratched... I wish I understood what Marchenko/Smith have to do to leapfrog the veterans in the lineup. So annoying.

Mrazek in tonight as well, should be interesting.

Red Wings look like not ass to start this one.

 

It makes me so mad that Tatar is down on the 4th line, but watching him turn the puck over at the blueline again makes me understand why he's not getting playing time. He's such a talented player, I hope he figures out what he needs to do to be successful before he is moved.

Also, Sheahan with a huge breakaway. Bishop with the big stop there.

 

They haven't looked even remotely ass to start any game.

 

This is how I feel about Athanasiou. The kid averages like 9 minutes a game or something and is constantly putting pucks on net, and has the best p/60 of anyone on the roster.

 

Tyler Johnson mouthing "fucking joke" in the penalty box like they both weren't clear as day trips.

 

Athanasiou makes ZERO sense to be so low on the depth chart right now, aside from money politics / veteran politics on the Red Wings roster. Blashill used the excuse that Kucherov was an elite AHL player, so it makes sense that he could step in and play big minutes for Tampa right away... AA has not been an elite AHL player, so he is unlikely ready to be an elite NHLer. Meanwhile, AA generates so many offensive chances with his speed, and he clearly has good offensive ability. Pair him with one of the team's better passers (Richards, Datsyuk, Zetterberg, etc.) and he could potentially be lethal if they can just get him the puck. It makes no sense. It honestly felt like him + Sheahan + maybe Helm were the only offensive weapons down the stretch when Detroit was making their playoff push.

Hopefully Blashill figures it out eventually... your aging stars aren't as good as they used to be, so play players that have energy and want to be successful, you have nothing to lose right now, you're already down 0-2 to a favored opponent.

 

I just called Richards one of the team's better passers, and then he completely blows the pass to Green twice on the 5on3.

 

I felt kind of bad watching Athanasiou in Game 1 because he was doing everything he could to carry that fourth line but Glendening & Andersson can only do so much in support.
