Linkin Park - One More Light (May 19, 2017) Album • Page 9

  1. Agreed. This is true with all bands. Everyone wants your new stuff to sound like your old stuff because that's what holds the most memories and love for you since that was the one that got you into the band, etc.

"When we made Hybrid Theory, I was the oldest guy in the band and in my early 20s. That’s why I guess I’m like, 'Why are we still talking about Hybrid Theory? It's fucking years ago. It’s a great record, we love it. Like, move the fuck on. You know what I mean?"

Bennington also made clear his position toward listeners who think that Linkin Park have "sold out," offering an intense retort to fans who believe the band are attempting to "make success out of some formula."

"We were asked, 'What do you think of people who say you sold out?' I don’t care. If you like the music, fantastic. If you don’t like it, that’s your opinion too. Fantastic. If you’re saying we’re doing what we’re doing for a commercial or monetary reason, trying to make success out of some formula… then stab yourself in the face!"

This is completely fair and justified. He still likes that album and doesn't mind people not liking their different styles. He's also sick of having the past decade of various content being continually contrasted with an album he made nearly two decades ago, often in a negative light. And also sick of his intentions being questioned. I'd be frustrated, too.

If you feel attacked by his comments and don't see how he'd feel attacked by constant "sell out" comments, like, I don't even know what to tell you. Really. Let them make what they want and feel about it what they want, and get over it if their style and your tastes no longer line up. lol.

To be honest, I wish Mike was the only singer.

Their last album a few years ago was pretty heavy for them and had songs with the rap rock vibe from HT/Meteora. Even if I don't really love what we've heard so far from this new album, I still don't mind that they are changing it up again.

Then all their best songs wouldn't be able to be played live.

That Fort Minor album got old about halfway through.

I don't like the Maroon 5 direction the band's moving in, but I agree that people expecting another HT is ridiculous. That's an album that you throw when someone asks "What did rock music in the 2000s sound like?" It's pretty dated and I don't see why someone would want them to continue doing that, especially when it was repeated with "Meteora."

True, but I feel like his singing voice is better suited to their current direction than Chester's.

I totally respect the band for wanting to move in this direction.

But having heard 4 songs now, I think this direction just isn't for me at all.

I agree that people should stop asking for the same sound over and over. I think my problem with Chester's comments is that he contradicts himself with every album, like with Hunting Party: "I'm sick of everything sounding the same on the radio" and now it's like, hey look we are releasing songs that sound like every other songs you hear and if you don't like that well screw you.

I think Mike was the one saying everything on the radio sounds the same, because he mentioned Chvrches and they changed their avatar to his face.

So four songs into this album, its safe to assume it's going to be all electronic pop. I still actually like each of the four songs on their own merits, but still at the same time disappointed this will be the LP we have for the next 4 years or so until their next album if that makes any sense.

it's not so much the meaning of the lyrics but the are clunky and don't flow well. there's an extra syllable in pretty much every single line which just makes it hard to listen to.

    especially

"if you feel invisible / i won't let you feel that now"

the second line is too long, it breaks up the pre chorus and delays the actual chorus hitting by a half second.

Enjoying this a decent amount... imo Talking to Myself is head and shoulders above most of the album though, and that's never a good sign when you immediately wish most of the album was more like one specific track. That one feels way more natural for them while still being "pop rock".
