  1. Good song, on par with every other deluxe song they've released so far. The lyrics are low effort but I'm not going down that (fucking) rabbit hole again

The lyrics to this song are a fucking joke. We live in a world where pop punk/punk artists are writing some powerful, moving poetic stuff along with the same riffs or melodies that people enjoy about this band. This is completely useless. I'm getting tired of saying that the lyrics are coming out of a high school sketchbook, but cmon son. Do better. Idk how someone as lyrically creative as Skiba can put his name on this nonsense

They wish they could make songs as catchy as anything from Enema again. Anyone can rock to Enema's songs, whilst these new deluxe songs appeal only really to devoted Blink fans.

Most of these news songs have been pretty underwhelming, but frankly, so has Blink since post-reunion.

Reading some of these comments before listening to the song made me nervous. Glad I dig it though, nothing too special, but it's a short, nice, fun song that gets me going. I think this song is better than the chorus of 6/8.

The song is on par with the rest of the album, which is expected. Boring for me, but happy to see Skiba in such a place and happy to see Mark being able to do what he wants again.

Oh wow that is enema-ish old school sounding. I like it. It's not as good as Misery or 6:8 but it's on par with Parking Lot(which I like). Liked the trade off vocals for sure

  8. On first listen, it's my favorite of the deluxe so far. The lyrics are shitty but so is the majority of the California album.

I don't think this song sounds anything like Enema, so I'm infinitely puzzled by those comments.

I haven't minded the lyrics on California...:but to be fair I have never demanded deep lyrics of blink. And then sometimes they catch me off guard with a song that is close to deep or personally strikes home for me lyrically in some way.

I think people are too picky on the lyrics lol

Genuinely surprised with the roasting it's getting.
Perhaps not good enough to make the Grammy nominated California. But I'm struggling to see it as a real dud outside so so lyrics which we all know isn't blinks calling card anyway
Obviously horses for courses. But it's nothing outrageous that shocks the system into "yuk" like the new FOB single might

Meh, I wouldn't worry about Skiba. He's a hired gun and he knows it. I'm sure when we get more Alkaline, we'll get what we want.

I agree that the lyrics are sub-par. However, blink havent been writing any good lyrics since Dude Ranch imo. I mean, the guys were 24-27 years old when enema came out and they sang about going high school, it's not like it was relatable then either. Tom was 26 when he wrote the lyrics to Story Of A Lonely Guy, singing about being nervous before prom. Yikes.

Untitled lyrics are better, but they are by no means great. (except for here's your letter)

What i'm trying to say is that, i understand people that don't like the song because of the lyrics. But for me personally, blink has never been a band that i listened to because of the lyrical content, but rather because of the fast catchy melodies.

For nostalgic reasons only, I like the song. The riff reminds me of stuff off TOYPAJ actually. Not Enema. Cool.

Their lyrics were never their strong suit outside of Dude Ranch/sporadic other songs throughout their career, but these are some of the worst that I've seen.

    "I need to speak up
I don't want to grow up
I don't want to end up caught in a landslide with the other side"

    "We want this war
    We cursed and swore
They stood no chance at all
    The underdogs came home"

I honestly cannot think of another band that I listen to/have listened to that has more empty, vapid lyrics. Beach Slang was pretty bad, I guess, but this is ridiculous.

Right off the bat I already like that song more than at least No Future, Rabbit Hole and Parking Lot. Doesn't compare to Hey I'm Sorry, Misery and 6-8 off the deluxe though.

Saying that people always complain about their lyrics isn't an excuse to stifle discussion about them. This band isn't even putting out memorable melodies anymore. Pure nostalgia goggles.

  24. it pleases me as well! especially since after reading everyone's comments, hopes were a bit shattered. i guess going into stuff with super low expectations pays off! hoorah! haha

but for real, the lyrics are like leftover/copied from Kings of the Weekend and Parking Lot, but whatevvvvv. i'm not in it for the lyrics at all.

the music in this is interesting, i like the tempo, i like all the back and forth vocals, and i really like everything but the lyrics actually. fist bump to blink.

    Things have changed.

Newer songs like "Cynical," "Bored to Death," "Left Alone" and "San Diego" have shown Mark's able to write intelligent, mature lyrics. He just can't do it consistently.

The most affecting song on California for me might actually be "California," which I know a lot of people hate lyrically but is a song I think brilliantly captures the suburban malaise they sang about back in the day, just from the other side of adulthood.
