I have a hard time with the more "theatrical" side of metal, and I think Iron Maiden stray a little closely to that.

Semi-related, but I can't do most progressive metal because of how theatrical it is. There is some incredible talent in that genre, but the music is hard for me to take seriously. I don't know why. It always bums me out because I know I'm missing out on some great bands.

Definitely agree with this, I can see how/why they're as big as they are (hello the 80's and people harping back to what was) but yeah I just find them so cringy, I think the majority of that comes from Bruce's vocals and lyrics.

They do have a couple of absolute belters scattered throughout their discog though (Aces High and the Trooper being the ones that come to mind). I guess I just prefer my metal when it's taken more seriously.

I've never seen them live but I get the impression that Iron Maiden would make more sense to me in that setting. I'm never remotely interested in listening to their records.

I already wasn't a fan of him before dating my ex who was a big fan. I mean, he's ok I guess. I just don't understand the collective boner for him.

I mean, what do you look for in rap? To me it's hard to find a rapper that does a better job covering all the bases in that genre. Including having powerful messages that can be understood by anyone regardless of background.

I'm cautious on Kendrick in that enough people whose opinion I respect like him. As such, I assume that there either must be something I'm missing or maybe it's just not my thing.

I truthfully do not care about messages when listening to music. I just like music that doesn't bore me. And Kendrick bores me.

You don't have to care about messages in music, but then don't turn around and say a poetic, lyrics-focused artist isn't artistically talented haha. The onus of that is on you for not paying attention to the part of Kendrick's music that people praise the most.

To me that's kinda like saying a car body shop is shitty and don't go there... because you went there with no collision damage and expected them to fix your engine instead. Just cause it isn't what you look for doesn't mean they aren't good at what they do /focus on.

Never said he wasn't talented. I just said that his music doesn't do anything for me.

That's fair. "Not artistically that good" is saying something pretty different though. That starts to discredit the artists creativity. Say what you want about Kendrick's overall appeal but it'd be downright silly to say he's not inventive / an innovator in his genre, does a lot that most rappers haven't done

Many people think that he is one of the best rapper artistically but I think many rappers is better artistically than him. There is no discredit to the artist creativity.

To be fair, he responded to the guy saying that. But I agree with this in general. For instance, I don't enjoy Radiohead but if my lack of enjoyment was summed up in "they're not artistically good" that's just presuming my tastes upon the whole of music. Plus, half the bands I love wouldn't be bands if not for Radiohead so there's that too.
