I think the internet attention economy has encouraged people to engage in performative cruelty online, while also finding a socially acceptable "woke" way to do it. That's why so many people are celebrating Bob's death, not because the world is actually meaningfully better without him, but because he's considered an acceptable target of people's base desire for cruelty, because he was a considered "bad person". I'm just no longer ideologically interested in whether or not anyone is a "good/bad person" it just isn't a useful or quantifiable assessment. I think it's important to gauge whether the amount of harm someone has caused is proportional to our desire to see them suffer, and I just don't see that here. Bob obviously had many abhorrent, awful opinions and statements, but ultimately he's not Trump. He's not even Ronnie Radke. He was a lonely jackass, who drove away everyone who loved him, and had no remaining fans. He wasn't the cause of any bigotry or violence, he was the symptom of a larger political machine of bigotry. That doesn't make anything he said okay, he obviously caused many people hurt, and I will never tell marginalized people they need to mourn someone who wished them harm. But I personally think it's super sad he never got to turn his life around, and instead will always be remembered for the person he was at his lowest point.

Damn, that was a difficult read. It really feels like he’d understood what had gone wrong and wanted to make amends. Perhaps he realised he couldn’t. No matter how much someone has made some bad mistakes, they don’t deserve to feel that way or it have it end like this. RIP.

This was the post he made about a year ago. It’s all incredibly sad and he was very troubled by the sounds of it. Hopefully not a controversial thing to say, but no one deserves to go out that way. Seems like he really lost his way. Rest in peace.

Now that I've got the backend of Bandcamp cleared out, I wanted to clarify for folks that the Volcano vinyl is band produced, I'm not involved in this pressing at all. However, I did contribute to the liner notes! An oral history of Volcano and I interviewed everyone from the band. A good companion piece to the other album liner notes. Their manager was able to negotiate the rights for this with Concord, and they decided to take it on themselves. No one from Concord or Fearless would return my emails or inquiries, haha. There was some mix ups during the pre-order launch. Essentially, I'd started their Bandcamp Artist page for them a few years ago and gave them access recently to launch the pre-order as their own merch item. I didn't get a chance to look at the draft product page because it wasn't visible on my end until it was published. The payment information wasn't adjusted, so it looked like it was fulfilled by Overdue. We got that all sorted out and fixed. The band has access to each order for fulfillment whenever it arrives in April! But hey, it's finally happening and I couldn't be more excited! If you didn't see this morning, they announced a new vinyl variant and new merch on their Big Cartel! There are discount codes for both stores. [MEDIA] [MEDIA]

I haven't, I've just heard the clips, but the clips of the chanting part especially are just very much diametrically opposed to what I like about this band or this genre of music in general so I can't imagine I'm going to like the whole song much better
