But what I am saying is that there is 0 proof that the thing YOU agree should determine whether a second chance should be on the table hasn't happened and we have no proof of it happening. So, I'm asking you again, how do you reconcile advocating for a second chance while not having any proof that it has been earned?

Being mindful of someone’s past behaviour, not forgiving them and giving someone further chances are all very different things. They’re not mutually exclusive. If you look at my previous posts and what I do for a living I can assure you I am more than qualified to talk about the behaviour of people who engage in this kind of activity. Don’t claim that I am saying people shouldn’t be given second chances when I haven’t said that.

Where? We're on a text based forum. Please quote the person that said they do not believe in second chances. I've had conversations over the years with most of the people posting in this thread and the idea of "no second chances" would run counter to the core of their beliefs. A second chance, an earned second chance, has been at the center of most of the complaints here because zilch, and in many ways the opposite of what would earn a second chance, was done.

Not accepting double standards usually would mean you'd want all the people that do bad things to face some kind of repercussions, not that because someone got away with it someone else should too. That's not "not accepting double standards" in the good way, that's the bad place way.

You're telling me you'd still be acting this exact same way toward the women if the band had told you, flat out, in explicit terms, "believe them, do not harass them"? And to go further, it's the bare minimum they could have done when they were ASKED TO DO IT from one of the people hurt. Even if you think it would do nothing, that should be secondary to the fact that the some of the very people hurt asked for it. The talk moving on needs to reconcile with them being presented with a way to do the right thing, asked explicitly by someone being harassed and doxxed online, and they were silent.

I agree, it's one of the many reasons I have no desire to pretend the band is rehabilitated. Again, I do not care if people listen to or have positive memories with the band. But the reality of watching someone hurt, and re-hurt through silence of people that had power to help, is inexcusable to me. Quite frankly, in any other job, in any other industry — Jesse would have been fired and blacklisted. But this is the music industry and Brand New clearly doesn’t have a fucking HR department. Musicians can harass and assault young people (Chris Brown), and not only go along with their lives without proper consequence (David Bowie), but also continue to PROFIT off of their product (Michael Jackson).

Do you not understand the difference between a legal trial and public opinion? Like, do I have to explain the most elementary concepts to you? Do you really hold the belief that if someone was never charged in a legal court of law for an action that what they did was not wrong? Do you really think that the legal system is the single arbitrator of truth or punishment? Do you really think "going away to not play music for a bit and some people online think what you did was really fucking shitty" is some how a conviction or punishment? These are all things 5th graders understand.
