I wonder how a Tom DeLonge and Will Yip album would have been.

 

THAT! Lol man it's hard to follow him on Facebook or anything anymore because literally four times a day I see him posting about AvA and To The Stars mugs, shirts, hoodies, beanies, pencils, loin cloths, trash bags, laundry detergent, vitamins and everything else under the damn sun lol. Talk about the aliens, I am a believer in that kind of stuff I'll listen(even if I think his theories are far fetched even for me), or better yet put out some damn music. I would love to hear some new stuff because I haven't lost all hope he can make decent music with AvA. Not with blink but with AvA.

I'm not sure one of the guys is more "creative" than the other. (At least not musically). I'd say Tom is more AMBITIOUS than Mark though.

Like they both started off happy to make 3-4 chord guitar pop songs and while Mark still wants to do that, Tom obviously has grander aspirations of crazy effects and landscapes etc. The problem is that Tom wants to use effects and weird sounds but doesn't really integrate them within his songs which is why so many AVA joints are just overly long intros of noises followed by a regular 3-4 chord guitar pop song that didn't really benefit from using any of that stuff anyway.

Also as far as him pushing a load of his merch, let's not act like Mark isn't also selling a bunch of mugs and socks etc with an octopus stuck on it.

 

I see far less merch advertising from Mark than I do from Tom on any form of social media. Far...far....FAR less.

What has Tom done that's more creative musically than Mark since he left blink?

 

The Chasing Shadows EP and his demo album are both more creative than anything on California.

 

Creative does it equal good or having any value.

 

It doesn't, you're totally right. But I also personally prefer Tom's recent output to blink's by a good bit.

 

I would argue that chasing shadows and demos album are recycled crap that he's done already and that songs like 6/8 and los angles show more creativity and growth.

 

It's all personal opinion, really....


But I'll take California/CaliDlx over anything Tom has done since Love Part 1

 

Yeah I haven't been onto anything since that too. I'll cop a few Love p2 singles and I thought I liked Dream Whisperer or whatever but never went back to it after 2 listens
I really really like i-empire and songs that weren't intros or random noise in Love 1

 

I haven't truly greatly enjoyed a Tom song since the untitled album.

Or maybe I just have not liked his material in years? And since tom Fans have to constantly being him up, despite having nothing to do with blink in years, it's easy to bring up disdain for him.

Same same. I like a handful of songs off of Love Part 1-2 and DW. Could combine them to make a pretty good album. But I'd still take a California song over any of them

 

I mean not everyone is hating on him. Some are critically looking at his work and even Marks...it's discussion. Some are favoring some aren't. Very few are 'hating' on him. He's a major part of the bands past he's bound to come up in discussion

 

Better than anything hes self produced and released lately.

 

Yeah ambitious is the word people are looking for, not creative.
