I loved Nebula and the fruit, ha.

Really enjoyed the movie, but could not disagree with you more on this. He was without a doubt the worst part of the movie for me. I thought his acting was abysmal.

Just me though. For some reason the one-off line that still has me chuckling is I'm Mary Poppins Y'all!

Not sure if this is spoilery but I want to be safe!!

For me, he just seemed to really fit the whole sociopathic/narcissistic part that I felt the character needed. There was an underlying unsettledness that stood out to me. Of course, I'm sure my rave review will change with repeat watchings. I tend to be very forgiving on actors when I love the movie right off the bat.

Nebula and the fruit was a classic setup, delivery, and call back, but it didn't work for me. The tape on the other hand, killed me. So funny.

I mean, he was named Ego for a reason.

Goddamn, James Gunn is the literal best.

I honestly loved this movie, it was more of the wild fun the first movie was and the story, while rough in parts, was good. I straight up lost my shit at the Stan Lee Watchers cameo, hopefully that was a nod to the theory that he's the Watcher.

Uatu rights belong to Fox. Marvel can use the race of Watchers, but not specifically Uatu. But, yeah, it's totally making a version of the fan theory canon, which is awesome.

    run away with me Platinum

Elizabeth Debicki and Kurt Russell were the best, I want Ayesha and Hela to hang out together
I liked Mantis a lot too and her outfit was so cute

I can't stop imagining Gunn having to explain the Guardians to Sly Stallone, and him trying to run over his lines and getting confused and accidentally running lines from Star Wars and Rocky

    and more Teen Groot

best scene was Rocket fighting the Ravagers

This sums up almost entirely how I feel. I didn't feel nearly as invested in the characters as I did during the first movie for a lot of the reasons you mentioned. I'd probably lump it somewhere in the middle of the pack as far as Marvel movies go.

Just got back from seeing it for my first time. Will put spoiler tags around my thoughts just in case.

I loved the first movie, but this I'm not so sure about. I felt like the movie was being pulled in so many different directions between Peter and his father, Gamora and Nebula, Drax and Mantis, and Yondu/Rocket/Groot. It just seemed like everybody was off on their own personal story only to come back and not having progressed as a group so much. Going in, I was under the impression that the movie was going to explore the dynamic of the team more and how difficult it is for these personalities to get along with each other, as well as the dynamic between Peter and Gamora, Yondu, and his father. We got some of that, but I didn't feel particularly pulled in by the story emotionally.

The movie ran for quite a bit too, which didn't help while the group was split apart from each other for so long. Some of the fan service, jokes, and action scenes didn't land with me. Baby Groot didn't leave much of an impression on me, I felt like they relied too heavily on Drax making jokes, one action scene in particular that didn't work for me was Yondu walking throughput the ship while killing all the traitors.

However, what did work for me was the bits of scenes that Peter got with his father, as well as with Gamora. I'm glad they explored more of Gamora's story with Nebula as well, even though it just seemed a bit tacked on in the movie. The jokes were definitely still there. One particular line that had me really laughing was Peter saying "I'm gonna make some weird shit."

Overall, I thought the movie was alright. This is still the same funny, likable bunch of characters with big hearts as they were in the first movie. I just felt like, ultimately, that heart was being pulled in so many different directions. I really want to see it again though to see if my opinion changes with a different mindset/expectations. I didn't go in expecting to like it more than the first, but I didn't walk out feeling confident about whether I liked it or not.

Glad to see others in here enjoying it as much as they are though. Hope it clicks for me the next time I see it.

Yea I'm pretty middle of the road with it. I wanted more group dynamics. And the 2nd act had so much drama, imo not the best written drama either, that I really pulled out of the movie.

Did not think Ego was a good antagonist, and was not written/executed well. And this progressed the MCU by inches compared to the last movie. Like the whole movie felt like a b-side story that will hardly be relevant to the MCU outside of itself.

That's actually part of what I loved about this movie. It's such a small scale, personal story and isn't devoting half its run time to setting up a future movie down the line.

Same. The tie ins should be more subtle or saved for post credits. Which this movie does both. Love it.

Yeah, it's funny seeing the film be criticised for not affecting the MCU as a whole when one of the common complaints about Marvel films is that a lot of them just feel like build up to other things rather than having their own story.

It's my biggest complaint about Batman Vs. Superman, pretty sure over 50% of that film was just setting up Justice League.

It's going to be so weird seeing the Guardians interact with everyone else, when they showed Earth I was like oh yeah that still exists

Mixed bag for me. LOVED the beginning and end. Final few minutes were pretty moving and I teared up.

Middle stuff... hit or miss. Am I like the only person on the planet (besides a few friends) who can't stand Nebula? That Gamora/Nebula storyline was a total snoozefest.

I think Nebula was the weakest performance, a little subtlety would have gone a long way for her, but I really liked the sister/sister story.

I wasn't big on her in the first one. Gillan is just okay for me too which doesn't help.

I wasn't feeling Nebulas storyline the first time through, but when I rewatched it I ended up liking it a bunch.

First viewing was an IMAX 3D. We got there 2 hours early and were forced to sit in the front row... So that really prevented some enjoyment. I'm not big on 3D and being that close didn't help.
