    Like most big events of that sort, you can read the main CWII and be fine, and you can also read most of the tie-ins in different ongoing titles as just a volume of said title without the event. They can supplement each other but don't require each other.

    As for the quality of the main event book itself... Um. It's not the best. lol. I've genuinely loved unpopular Bendis before, but this one was generally underwhelming. Still, the art from Marquez (w/ Ponsor colors) was fantastic, so if you can get it for cheap, I guess go for it. I could see it reading better when binged than it did as it came out.

  2. I read the parts of Miles/Spider-Man and they had me wondering if it was worth it to read it all in context. Haha. What's the "main" CWII considered? Is that on Marvel.com somewhere?

    If you enjoyed the Miles tie-in, you could certainly end up liking the main series, considering it's the same writer and has Miles as a major player towards the end. It ran in Civil War II #0-8.

    Ok, here are the Wonder Woman "Further Reading" assignments so far, as they currently stand (still room to shift something):

    @Deanna - George Perez Vol. 1 (Which "vol. 1" do you have? Seems to be a couple versions of different lengths in print at the moment.)
    @scottlechowicz - Earth One
    @Vivatoto - True Amazon
    @Dodge725 - Rebirth Vol. 1

    The rest wasn't quite set in stone yet. The remaining options I'd like to include are Legend of Wonder Woman and New 52 Vol. 1. People who haven't contributed yet to one of these (like @Henry, who offered earlier) have higher dibs, and if there are any more comic-reading women (or at least non-men) who'd like to contribute, they've got highest dibs. (Having more than one woman contribute to a Wonder Woman recommendations post just feels like a good idea, if at all possible.) @idlehands, do you have any interest in doing one? I can shift the assignments above if need be.

    I think New 52 is my preference, but I have Legend as well. Could also do the Rucka collection.

    if you find a woman, or a henry, who's interested in doing the new 52 vol 1 that's awesome, but i do have it and would be willing to do a blurb on it. i actually got it for my wife and haven't read it myself yet, so it would be a good excuse for me to read it haha. i am a terrible writer btw.

    Doesn't that Rucka collection include the graphic novel Wonder Woman: Hiketeia? I really liked that story. Anything with a cover like this has to be good:

    I am excited. Writing about a Morrison book means I get to discuss some pretty wild concepts.

    Just don't get too crazy, since most of these are pretty short, lol. They're supposed to be a paragraph each.

    If you really want, I can let you go longer than the rest and put yours last. It'd be fun to have one that's a little more in depth. I still don't want a full-blown comprehensive essay, though, lol.

    I can always do more than one if need be. Even if the Perez trade is 14 issues already haha. The only other I own is Rucka Vol. 1, but at least one library near me should have N52.

    My brilliance cannot be contained!!!

    But seriously, I won't be too much longer than a paragraph, if any. I just want to introduce or point out some interesting concepts / context.

    I save my essay long diatribes for my poor wife. She can pretty much recite my monologue about why I hate MoS verbatim at this point.

    Speaking of MoS...I meant to tell yall that the DCU thread was a lot of fun the other day lol @Tim @scottlechowicz

    that movie is hot garbage. not even taking shots at supes.

    Indeed it is.

    One day, if I just stop giving any fucks, I will pop into that thread and do my full-throated defense of Superman Returns. A flawed, but greatly under appreciated film.

    Especially considering the current developments in the Superman comic. That movie is well worth revisiting.

    Ha, thanks, but I still wanna keep it to one per person. This one being WW just made my desire to be inclusive even stronger than it already was. If we don't get another non-men for this one, I'll still seek that out for future male-fronted films. It'd just be particularly cool to do better with this character, but we obviously can't force it if we don't organically have the people to do so.

    If anything, bashing that film is your best defense of Supes thus far, lol.

    I still have issues w/ that film, but it's grown on me a lot the past couple years. Definitely a lot to like about it if you're a Superman fan. And, you had a great opportunity to swing in with a mega essay when I dropped mine, lol.

    Man, I can honestly say I loved SR when it came out. The Donner Supes films had a huge impact on me and so that film really resonated in a very specific way. With a few tweeks, that movie could have been made exclusively for me haha.

    I recognize it has very particular shortcomings, and it was a simply terrible attempt at "rebooting" the franchise for a new audience, but I thought some of the criticism was just unwarranted.

    So, I spent a good portion of 2006-2008 on message boards defending that film about as vigorously as possible haha. It really wore me out, which has left me pretty gun shy about it.

    Seriously, the Ain't It Cool News message boards are littered with me getting into fights over SR.

    Oh yes.

    I was a pretty lonely dude when it came out (thank goodness my wife never met me then because she would have run the other direction) and I went and saw it 6 straight Fridays at the theatre, all by my lonesome haha.

    The last 4 weeks I was literally the only person in that theatre. It really was an uphill climb to find someone to marry me haha

    The preview looked pretty. And I loved that cover.

    I like Christian Ward's art. Infinite Vacation looked awesome. Though ODY-C looked a little too chaotic for my taste and the faces were inconsistent.

    I plan on going back to ODY-C because I love the story, but the art had me so confused as to what was goingon.
