  3. I was referring to Hillary's platform. Thought the past tense gave that away.

I haven't been following the French election much and am not versed in his policies. So, I'll just fall back on the one reason to vote for him anyway, but a quick Google gives me these:
The plan also earmarks investment to meet environmental energy targets in a bid to move from coal-based energy production to alternative renewable energy sources.

Mr Macron plans to save £8.4 billion (€10 billion) in unemployment benefits but reducing the jobless rate to seven per cent.

He also plans to push for public service modernisation, greater efficiency in the health sector and cuts to local authority spending.

In stark contrast to Marine Le Pen, Mr Macron does not envisage a France that shut outs immigrants and asylum seekers

my interpretation of that comment was that it implied that there was someone even further left than Bernie, ie leftists aren't tied to him as a party icon as much as the best we can get right now, as there are still severe compromises (like apartheid states) that are embedded into our Overton window. perhaps Armistice could clarify.

Is anyone here cool with Trump winning in 2020?

Also, I'd love for some of the people in here to look at everyone rounded up in Obama's unprecedented deportations in the face and tell them about compromises and how much worse the republicans are.

  8. Haha, definitely.

Kinda looks like one of those mixed up toys where Spider-Man's head gets put on Batman's body in a Transformer box.

There's also a ton of Jewish Americans who support the idea of Israel existing as a Jewish state, but don't support the settlements and want a two state solution and etc, but when asked if they "support Israel", they answer yes.

That the phrase "a single issue" be conflated with genocide is why no leftist wants anything to do with the Democratic party or neoliberal ideology in any form.

So, you realize that he has been basically the architect of French austerity and that's his key to fixing their economic problems, i.e., liberalization? He also has a law an order platform as well. Good shit right there.

  13. I have no idea what leap you made to get from "if by some ungodly method the dems get punched left enough to field Bernie, I'd just like it to be known that no leftist is going to vote for Bernie either" to "best we can get right now even if there are compromises."

No, we were somehow asked to accept someone much worse, you're right.

it's a very common view unfortunately, in part because Israel's relationship with the US is so close. it's pretty gross tbh. given that part of Israel's determination to make the land their home is due to the violent dispersion of the Jewish people (from the Holocaust but also predating it), there's a degree of that that should be considered in land agreements. but beyond that i find a lot of the usual bullshit talking points get put forward in arguing for their land as is on Fox News, where people just kind of automatically believe it for some reason.

  16. Cool, so you didn't want an answer to your question about what was being offered, you just wanted to argue about why it's not good enough? Geee, thanks. In that case, circle back to my first point.

Well, regardless of whether that's true or not, we wound up with someone even worse than that so I guess that's a win, right? Silly me!

I would have loved to see people alongside the rest of us fighting against Obama's deportation spree, instead of pretending it was okay.

my reading of "the DNC fielding Bernie" indicated that he wouldn't be an "outsider" like he was this past election, implying that there would be an opening for someone more radical than him, much like how Trump has unchained the GOP.

  20. Hillary's proposed policy on deportations/immigration/etc. was to the left of Obama's. For the record.

See above. Also, you have no idea who was and wasn't fighting against Obama's horrific number of deportations.

It's not "conflating" if you're willing to screw over the people around you because a guy is really really really good on a lot of issues that would include getting those same people healthcare, higher wages, access to education, more oversight of their police, etc. but is prettt bad on a particular issue. You advocate a strategy that literally makes ALL of those issues worse because you're unwilling to keep trying to push the guy closer to your views on that one issue more your way.

And that "one issue" is different for a lot of people that take up that self-defeating strategy.
