I am little confused as to why people are curious as to how they will play this song live. They have a lot of songs now that heavily feature electronic elements. They play their parts on their instruments and they have backing tracks play the other elements.

In short, they are gonna play this song live the same way they play "My Songs..."

Actually, it kinda reminds me of when I first heard "This Ain't a Scene", sounds too different at first, but it has grown on me after three spins.

Why does it matter if it's rock or has guitars or any of that shit? Treat the song as it's own thing. The band is making what they want to make.

True. But to my knowledge, this is the first song they've made with a chorus that's borderline dubstep

    Still, you're right.

I think the people who get all defensive about defining what is rock and what isn't via ratio of guitars to synths, etc.......are not musicians themselves usually. As someone who has been playing and writing music most of my life, I can say that I've always wrote whatever sounded cool and didn't give a shit about what genre it fit into. I can say, with confidence, this is how FOB likely operate as well.

Ive really just soured on this general movement which everyone attributes to "growth" and "change" of bands. I think it sucks, I think the songs sound like shit. And it's not just this band. It's just not for me.

Some people like it, and that's fine. I can respect that opinion too. No use in arguing, really. Nobody is right or wrong and both opinions are on opposite sides of the spectrum.

As most music does. What about pop-punk being released today that can't survive a single week without feeling old?

They will probably show up to whatever venue it is they are playing at the day of the concert and then either members of the band or the road crew (most likely the road crew) will set up their instruments by plugging them and the amps into the appropriate electrical sockets. Then the crew will test the equipment etc. Once everything is ready to go Patrick, Joe, Pete, and Andy will get on stage and take up said instruments. Andy will play the drums that will be played through an amp of sorts, Pete will play the bass guitar that will also be played through an amp, and Joe and Patrick will follow suit with their guitars (and Pete with his microphone for singing). Then when this song comes up on the set list they will use electrical energy produced from electricity generating stations to power their instruments and together they will play their individual parts that will come together to form this song. It's really not that hard to understand.

Would you rather them write Take This To Your Grave over and over again?

  15. Yeah like like how TTTYG AND FUCT are two of the most outdated pop punk albums

No. Not at all. In fact I spoke recently about the new Paramore song and how people would complain if they wrote BNE again. But i'd rather them expand and build on that sound overall.

What i'm saying is I think there's plenty of room for movement within that TTTYG soundscape, musically and sonically, that I would love. They don't have to write the same 10 pop punk songs over and over. They also don't have to go completely in this direction.

Again, some people don't like it, some people do. It's not for me.

Staying within the sound of TTTYG gets you The Wonder Years.

Is that really true though? TTTYG never got anywhere near the crossover success of FUCT+, so I'd leave that alone in this argument. FUCT though, contains two of the songs that (more or less) define the early/early-mid portion of the "scene," with Sugar, We're Going Down and Dance Dance. How are you defining outdated?

I really don't think it's that black and white. And again it doesn't need to specifically be that soundscape, there's plenty of room to expand within that general theme without going this far in the other direction.

But again, you have to look at the other side. I can totally see how someone would dig this song. It's just not for me at all.

No one in the thread has said they want another TTTYG or FUCT. Fall Out Boy are progressing exactly how they want to progress. Some people are going to enjoy the new territory and some aren't.

This sounds like hot garbage to me, but that doesn't mean I want them to re-tread on their old work. I want them to progress, I just wish their progression was more in line with my own taste and I don't think there's any reason people shouldn't be allowed to be disappointed if it isn't. Just like I won't harp on anyone who enjoys it.

Edit: If PAX AM Days or whatever it was called was Fall Out Boy trying punk on for size, I have no problem with them staying far, far away from the genre.

    Things have changed.

Even if you don't like the song, the whole album is clearly not going to sound like this.

  22. People do say that all the time though. It's like one of the most common arguments in the FOB thread.

Sounds a hell of a lot more creative than anything they were doing on the last album, but man, everytime I hear those hamster vocals in any context I cringe.
