The biggest shame about Daniel Bryan's retirement is that we never got to hear Slade's takes on why he should be turned heel.

If AJ or Owens were in title matches and lose everyone would be pissed and might even think the company was "burying" them. Also, it would only be a matter of time before people got sick of seeing the same people in the same matches for the same titles with only so many different outcomes.

Having Jinder in the main event of a D PPV in April / May does no harm.

I'd rather see AJ / Nak / Owens in title matches at important PPV's

Remember when Rollins was in like 8 fucking title matches in a row and how boring / ridiculous that was?

Remember when this company wasted the Shield triple threat at some random PPV instead of a major one like they deserve?

Rotation of the roster for titles and feuds is good. The match of Orton vs Jinder will probably suck but hey, it's something new / different / unexpected, which this company needs a shitload more of

Rollins was mishandled when he returned from injury. He should have been written as a babyface. Would have gone over huge.

I agree on your last bit. Rotation is the key word. Not only of feuds and titles, but for gimmicks and turns as well.

I haven't read it but I believe Shoemakers book details it very well.

 

My issue with the brand split is that there were zero new concepts introduced along with it: it was literally a regression in a lot of ways. The structure of both shows is identical to that of 2006, with the exceptions being Raw is an hour longer, and some of the titles are in different places. Smackdown went Live, and Talking Smack happened, but other than that...??? 205 Live is the new Velocity, NXT is filling the role WWECW did at the time. Even a ton of the talent is in the same.

I want a TV title on Raw, or a contendership ranking system on Smackdown, or anything to separate the shows from each other or the shows they were a decade ago. The writing on Smackdown was largely splendid last year, but since the shakeup, no matter what I'm watching, it's all McDonalds. They have at the bare minimum 6 and a half hours of main roster programming a week, and everyone's following the same formula.

Shoemaker's book is one of the best historical records of anything I've ever read, and certainly the best wrestling book I've ever read... and I've read too many wrestling books.

But I'd like again add that the network has hurt the PPV's because they are under less pressure to build up to them.
