I sincerely don't think the bridge of Sink is cheesy. I know this is not a popular opinion. But I know some people have problems with the part: "how darkly the dark hand"... But I feel like this line cooould be pulling a bit from a verse in the New Testament that says "we see through a glass, darkly". With that being said that may be a bit of a stretch. But I dno, Jesse often has religious undertones / subtle references that make you question where he stands with God. And even in just a couple lines ahead Jesse mentions the devil and God (pun intended). I think even though people dislike those first two lines, they're descriptions of Satan in the bridge. Especially the "phoney" part.

Also, I feel like sometimes people's hate for those first two lines cause people to dislike a bridge that was some actually quality lyrics:

"But we heed the last words that he penned
Haste to disgrace the traitor. Do not wait til later
I don't think that you've got to pretend
I see God in birds and Satan in long words
But I know what you need in a friend
So now when I leave you, I hope I won't see you"

^^ I think those are great lines tbh

 

But hey... If anything we just need a new Brand New record so we can talk about something other than the 7 year old "Lyrics to the bridge of Sink" debate hah

 

Yeah, you're right that the rest of the bridge is solid. I love the "God in birds and Satan in long words" line actually.

 

Just remember that whatever we get from them will probably be what we have left to speculate on, in regard to Brand New, for the rest of time.

June/July can't come soon enough. My bridesmaids bought me tickets to go see Florence + The Machine in June and the future hubby and I are going to see Brand New & Modest Mouse in Chicago. He's not a fan. I somehow got him to see them at Summerfest too Haha. Neither of us have seen MM so that's exciting!

 

congratulations to you and your husband! your bridesmaids sound incredible. high fives for them all around. I've never seen Modest Mouse either (got in to them late) so I'm looking forward to that and for my first show at Madison Square Garden.

 

Thank you so much:) May 21st is coming so soon. But anyway....future hubby always liked MM. I'm new to them as well, and I haven't heard alot of their stuff but I haven't disliked anything yet. I'm hooked on The Moon and Antarctica. Also, Lampshades on Fire is my go to these days.

This summer is going to be my first time seeing Brand New. I've been waiting quite a long time but finally I'll get to! I'm lucky I even got the tickets. I knew it would sell out fast so I went to the bathroom in school to get them. High school wifi almost ruined it for me haha

 

I'm looking forward to seeing them too. I just wish I would have gotten tickets to the Dallas show instead of Austin only because they'll be closing the Dallas one. Unfortunately they didn't announce the setup beforehand.

I just finished my first listen. I really enjoyed it! First impression is its not the most versatile album ever, but i definitely finished have a strong desire to listen to it again and become more familiar with everything.

 

This basically sums up my initial thoughts as well!

 

I've loved everything I've heard so far.

 

I really love that Colour Revolt album, The Cradle, but both Greater Pyrensneeseas songs I heard really don't make me want to hear more

 

Wouldn't it be funny if Wish (NIN song) was on the new album.

With that recording of Sealed To Me, I definitely like the time where he played it for the first time. That's the version I cut up and put on my iPod. The short opening speech, the more droning guitars from the position it was filmed, the "start your own band" at the end..... that's the best for me.

 

Mene, Sealed to me, and probably 2 more.

 

I think we will get an albums worth. I also don't think Mene will be part of it.

 

I think Mene will be on it. I'll bet a vinyl pre-order on it if anyone wants to take me up on this, as long as you do it within the day.
