Nvm ignore me haha, i need to give it a shot

 

IGN are doing a No Man's Sky month again and I've just watched two 30 minute videos where the developers do a real good job of telling you what you can do, but not telling us why.

You can explore, fight, name species/planets, trade and learn about species but why are we doing that stuff? There seems to be no end goal, just infinite exploring of barren, randomly generated planets and that bores me to tears.

The guy was so proud in the video saying that every player will get to name planets they find, before literally in the next sentence saying 99% of planets in the game will never be found by anybody else. It all just seems so pointless.

 

The whole point of the game is exploration and survival. So the reason you're doing all that stuff is because it's the point of the game - to explore the universe and find out what's in it as opposed to progressing a plotline. From what I can tell, there's not so much a plot as there is just an enormous amount of things to see and explore and discover.

It's not the type of game that will appeal to everyone, but as a form of art and exploration, it seems very, very interesting.

 

Yeah I'm just a dumbass and either missed or forgot where they told you how to attack multiple enemies haha, it is a great little game though def give it a shot.

 

Its a great little game until it consumes your soul and you grind to level 160 and complete the main quest line in less than a week

 

Been playing RE6 campaigns with my brother and my god this game is hot garbage but it's so funny.

 

I would pay $7 for it.

 

I mean I don't regret paying the money at all - we've both laughed so much at how nonsensical this game is. But my entertainment value from the game isn't the type it tries so hard to elicit . So for someone just playing this alone, I imagine it would be pretty awful.

 

+ the AI was sooooooooo bad

 

Yeah I know there's a massive emphasis on exploration, but the problem is that there doesn't seem to be anything of real interest to find. I'm happy to walk around and find things, discover creatures and flora and whatnot but if it can't all be connected in some way it just feels empty. Naming stuff is also irrelevant if nobody is ever going to see it, and so far all the planets they've showed off look like generic clones of one another with a different colour scheme and randomly generated life.

I know some people really love to just literally walk around and look at stuff but right now I see this game being a huge flop.

 

Chris and Piers's main enemy type, like zombie triads, we're just so ridiculous.

 

Kingdom Hearts UX is actually consuming my life. I need godmothers because like 50 of my medals are level 2. Just hit quest number 147 and I'm level 71.

Protip that is horribly explained/not explained: merging a 3-star medal with an identical 3-star medal adds a "charge" to the one. The same goes for all medals above 3 star, and each one has more charge levels (3 has 1 charge slot, 4 has 2, etc.) These aren't a big deal in the beginning but will be important later on. Leveling up a medal to a 5-star right away will make it harder to add charges later on, because you'll need to level up 2 identical 5 stars instead of doing it in stages. So, don't just throw away identical medals because you already have one of them.

 

Finished Shovel Knight, fantastic game.

 

Picked up Ratchet and Clank and downloaded the Battleborn and Doom Betas to check out this weekend.

 

Never played Ratchet and Clank before but everyone loving the new game made me pick it up

Where do you guys get your video game news?

I've visted ign for as long as I can remember internet, but I realize how shitty their info/reviews can be. I used to use gametrailers for reviews but that died off recently. Polygon isn't bad. Are there some sites that you guys check religiously?

 

I use an RSS reader that pulls in Polygon and Kotaku posts (as well as many other non-gaming sites), I never actually go to the websites themselves.

 

I mostly use Kotaku, and a google app that aggregates different news topics. I have a tab for videogames.

 

Gametrailers are now Easy Allies.

 

I got real busy last year when I was playing The Witcher 3, so I haven't gone back to it yet because I want to start over near Blood and wines release. So in mid-May, I'll start a new game with Hearts of Stone installed and by the time blood and wine launches, I'll be high enough level to play :D

I also use IGN and besides the others listed, Giantbomb is good as well.

 

Makes me happy seeing all these posts by people who have never played R&C loving the new game; not sure yet if I'll pick it up but I have very fond memories of the original, as well as Jak & Daxter.

 

Yeah if you liked the original Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank, it's definitely a worthy buy. It helps too that it doesn't cost the same as a regular retail game.

 

Same! Honestly i'd pick it up even if it was just a straight remaster similar to the HD remaster on PS3 but still R&C was my very first video game I loved and became obsessed with.
