The Venezuelan government is full of cowards and murderers who assault their own people in the hopes of keeping power. Maduro's refusal to move away from pure reliance on oil has tanked the Venezuelan economy, and in turn, the Latin American economy. This autocratic, nearly dictatorial move on Maduro's part will plunge Latin America (particularly the poor) into even deeper economic struggles and undermines all he and his party claim to stand for. The imprisonment of Leopoldo Lopez is wrong. While he may not be the best leader or politician to bring Venezuela back to a stable standing, it is clear that the attacks on human rights by the Venezuelan government cannot stand.

I have no problem with him seizing the plant. I'm a realist about Maduro, however, the opposition is thoroughly right-wing and want nothing more than to turn return Venezuela to a colonial territory of the IMF and other exploitative institutions.

 

I don't have a problem with him seizing the plant either. I am unsure as to what would be the best move going forward, but I also don't think we should permit continual atrocities to occur in the country.

I think the best option is for the communal councils to be given power, and the forces on the left to organize on that basis.

 

Another attempted socialist government is sabotaged and undermined by the capitalist system and its situation made untenable unless it concedes and falls in line with the global capitalist status quo and becomes a servant of the IMF or whichever. Of course, Maduro is a repressive authoritarian like all governors and him and Chavez are failed economists but its not like their economics are impossible - the comprador gulf oil states do just fine off of oil, slave labor, brutal repression and little else but oh yes, NATO and US support. Its a shame that any popular unrest in socialist states is necessarily channelled through these institutions which desire nothing less than to exploit that same populous to the maximum possible extent.

 

A few people in councils I know (around the general area of Caracas) have been organizing heavily, although they are weakened as they are forced to receive approval for funds or whatever they need to do. It seems that if enough of the councils organize in conjunction, a national uprising would be just about inevitable.

Yeah, in the past 4 months, give or take? They've been in some minor leadership positions in some of the protests recently. The PSUV hasn't formally responded to it but they've received threats to the council as a whole and other similar things.
