Heavy rap day today. Kendrick, then gotta listen to all of Rich Homie Quan, Kap G, and Talib Kweli

 

REALLY enjoying the new John Mayer. I liked the last few, more country-tinged albums as well, but this does feel like a more straightforward Mayer record. I get a Continuum vibe with less aggression (wish there were more tracks like 'Helpless' to give us that extra soul which I loved on Continuum), and some callbacks to Heavier Things for sure.

Can somebody please recommend some standout Kendrick tracks? I've tried listening to each album from the start but find myself stopping after a few tracks. Would love to get a jumpstart into Kendrick land!

 

Why's that? I think it's beautiful. Very understated and melodic. The first track especially is great.

 

So is this an old album that they re-recorded or something?

If that's the case, great. Kind of a weird marketing strategy regardless, but I guess you gotta go against the grain if you can these days.

 

Please pardon the old guy question, but if one has already purchased the first two waves of John Mayer's record, how do you get the third without paying for the entire album? Do you just buy the tracks individually? Asking for a friend...

 

Low Roar's new album is also very good. Didn't realize they had something out today.

 

Seems pretty slow, which is good because I'm still catching up from last week.

 

On top of Kendrick and Lucky Boys Confusion, I just released a new project with a friend of mine that I've been in a bunch of different bands with. We're called Majoris, and it is space rock a la Cave in's album Jupiter mixed with some 90s rock and metal. Basically, some heavy sections mixed with really ambient stuff and ultra catchy vocals. Check it out if that sounds at all like something you'd dig! I think a lot of people on this site would find something to like in it, every song is different. I just wanted to share because even though this is a one-off project for us I had a ton of fun being involved in making it and think there's some cool new sounds on it.

I think it's just a re-issue, but great band nonetheless. :)

Yes, thanks. Looks like it's a reissue of multiple ep's from 2011.

 

Yeah the whole thing is odd. He does have a history of talking out of his ass, but never before was that in reference to his actual work, so I, like you, took him at his word a few months ago when he spoke about this. It almost kinda feels like the studio kinda squished the whole thing down a little bit; I feel like he was talking up the whole project a lot and then all of a sudden he went quiet.

 

The new Kendrick is amazing
