I have a feeling it'll sound like a mix of bleachers and panic!

I feel like AB/AP was a development on SR&R so getting another development off of AB/AP would be cool. I think they're firmly in the pop sphere now which is fine, they do it well.

  3. They've always been in the pop sphere.

Please at least approach the sound of Folie and stay far the fuck away from AB/AP

That's my unlikely but ideal scenario

  5. I can think of at least a quarter of AB/AP that coulda fit on Folie and vice versa. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I never get the hate for the band's last album, it's just the trend I've come to accept. Whatever was released last ... people hate on. Haha.

Novocaine (which I believe was a FAD-era song), Twin Skeletons, Favorite Record, and The Kids Aren't Alright could all fit on FAD, off the top of my head.

I'd probably put AB/AP as my second favorite album by these guys, second to Folie. The fact that quite a few of the songs on AB/AP would fit on Folie probably helps

I'm not the biggest Fall Out Boy fan at all, but AB/AP is the only one I flat out don't like. I think I've listened to the whole thing maybe 3 or 4 times and I feel absolutely no need to ever come back to it.

The one song I do really like on that album though, is The Kids Aren't Alright. That song is really good.

If anything besides maybe The Kids Aren't Alright, Novocaine or maybe Twin Skeletons were on FAD they would stick out like a sore thumb and be the worst song on the album imo

"Jet Pack," "Fourth of July," and "Favorite Record" would fit right along and stand out less than "I Don't Care", "Tiffany Blews," and "20 Dollar Nose Bleed" IMO. I really think I draw a line from their first album all the way to their last (without even leaning on how many songs from those early era albums are on their later ones). Just my personal feelings on the band tho.

Jet Pack Blues...I knew I had forgotten to mention another song.

  13. I don't like everything from that album but the title track is superb. I remember how negative the reception was for it lol

Likewise. The reason i liked it so much was because it sounded more like the kind of stuff i loved so much on Folie. There's some fantastic songs on that album. I hope they continue in that direction.

    She haunts the roads

In my guesstimation, the cold shoulder AB/AP has been getting from die hards is because it's the record of theirs that has leaned the hardest into the sensibilities of modern pop radio - and away from the rock origins that they built their audience on - and that has the least variation between songs. I think that FAD and SR&R have their duds, but I also think their wild ambition and the variance of styles makes them a lot more fun to listen to. Though I tend to prefer albums/bands that are all over the place stylistically anyway.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed AB/AP, it has some great songs on it, but it took a minute for me to adjust to how prevalent the synths and clap drums were on basically every song. (That title track is god awful, though.)

It seems to me that FOB shed the 'pop punk' moniker in favor of being a 'Pop' band a while ago - and hey, more power to them! My only hope is they go back to the wild shifts in tone and style on the next record.

In the meantime, I still would have taken an AB/AP remix album in this style than the one we got...

Synths are prominent but there are absolutely guitars on every song of AB/AP. I'll still never understand how someone could hate that album but like SR&R.
