I know. Which is kinda depressing considering how iconic his art is. But it's still a good album. The last track really hits it home.

Phinehas & Auras, two bands I've never heard of before. Doors opened 15 minutes ago, so I should probably leave my grad school computer room right now and head over there, haha

 

How was Phinehas? I really enjoyed their last record.

 

Oh they were great; they were non-djent, which I really appreciated, and their guitarist had a guitar tone that was really metallic and riffy, which I thought was really cool. Guitar tone kinda like a sound if Killswitch Engage, Unearth, and August Burns Red merged. They probably could benefit from a 2nd guitarist, but this guy at least last night slayed that axe

 

Sweet. Yeah, they're more of a metalcore act, but they're pretty solid at what they do.

Shai hulud is probably the one act I go to in terms of influencing my musical interests overall. Probably the only metal band who's lyrics I appreciate.

Blood ill tempered is my favorite album in metal second to only "undoing ruin"

 

Not sure how anyone came out of that show alive. So much power violence.

 

Never heard of/listened to any of those bands. Check them all out?

My favorite vocalist after Chad is definitely geert. Since Shai hulud he's gone on to start a really mellow acoustic project called the black Atlantic.

Can't find the link right now but there's an almost hilarious video of a Shai hulud performance from 1997 with chad wearing like a pacers or Orlando magic oversized jersey haha. They must've still been in their teens.

What I've been listening to today. OSDM from the Bay area.

 

I had no idea that Demon Hunter still had this kind of following

 

These bands are gonna hit a whole different part of your metal palate. Don't expect anything technical or clean sounding, it's pure unadulterated aggression.

Ya Shai Hulud goes way way back. I have a biased opinion on em but I really think they really embody a sweet mix of metal, hardcore, and punk. The closest comparison would be misery signals but even that is a bit of a stretch. There is some technicality to their sound but don't expect too much.

If I were listening to them first time, I'd go "that within blood ill-tempered" then "hearts once nourished"..."misanthropy pure" and "reach beyond on the sun" are a bit interchangeable.

In terms of specific tracks I think you'd enjoy, check out "set your body ablaze", "given flight by demon's wings", "a profound hatred of man", "reach beyond the sun", "solely concentrating on the negative aspects of life", "my heart bleeds the darkest blood", "being exemplary".

I like Demon Hunter, but their new album is not that great. Last album I really liked by them was The World Is A Thorn.

 

I only listen to Demon Hunter when I'm about to go on a mission to hunt down suspected terrorists for the US Government.
