By the way, I know that I'm a day late (perhaps a dollar short?) to the discussion, but I don't think it's cool that people seem to be ganging up on people for their opinions in a thread explicitly made for them.

I had assumed that part of the re-branding of this site was hoping to bring some more positivity - not necessarily in saying "I like all artists," but certainly in accepting what other people say without being demeaning. One of the ugliest aspects of ap.net was the hive mindset, where a bunch of people would gang up on unpopular opinions, and the consistently holier-than-thou dismissiveness of that hive. Maybe it'll take a little while still to weed out that instinct.

I mean, I literally just read this whole thread, and I really do think that happened.

Those "problems" are what make me like the band, haha.

Someone put a Lost Prophets song on the other day when I had people over and I had to ask them to turn it off. I can usually separate art from the artist pretty well but I just couldn't listen to it.

People had issues with how others stated their opinions. That's all.

I know Lostprophets had that one "hit" or whatever but I really can't remember any of their songs. I couldn't possibly listen at this point.

I think that guy won the talent lottery, if this were a different time, he would have taken over the world.

Ok. I'm aware of what people had issues with, because like I said, I read it all. What I had an issue with was how other people stated the issues they had with how others stated their opinions.

Thanks for your participation in the thread! For the record, I agree with what you are saying and I think we all need to do better at giving people the benefit of the doubt when reading a post you might find questionable instead of assuming the worst and go on the offensive.

Having said all that, let's get back on topic and share unpopular opinions!

No I agree. The problem I have with literally being afraid to post in threads like this (and previously on APnet's "Controversial Opinions" thread) is that people would come in and say things like "WELL IT'S A PUBLIC FORUM I'M ALLOWED TO RESPOND", but it made me feel intimidated. Sometimes people just need their places to vent and say "I don't like this." and I think this kind of thread should be OK for that. You know, in the general sense.

I agree, and that is sort of the idea of the thread. If someone wants to further justify their opinion that is up to them, but no one should be bullied into it, and no one should have ill intentions grafted onto them based on their opinion. I am sorry that happened.

Didn't notice anything like that happening at all - this has been a very easy-going thread with the exceptions of the couple of people that didn't like the intention of the thread. Other than that, this has been a lot of fun back and forth.

Other than Juturna (which I think is incredible), I agree with you.

I wish more bands, in their later years, went back and re-imagined and re-recorded some of their earlier songs. I think that would be really interesting to hear.

I think mxpx badly needs to do that with pokinatcha... I want to say the same for teenage politics, because it SOUNDS like crap, but I honestly think with the way Mike writes & sings now that it would be completely botched.

Also, the Ataris went back and "updated" their first album & did a GREAT job with it - I mean, it was just added guitar parts and revamping the production, but damn was it a completely different album afterwards.

I think MxPx is one of those bands that has been criminally ignored in their later years. Plans Within Plans is so good!

MxPx criminally ignores EVERYTHING other than their "hit" songs - it is infuriating & the primary reason I won't get see them live, anymore. I have been to 13 mxpx shows & I have seen the same exactly setlist, with one or two changes, each time. They were my favorite band for about 15 years, but my God their live shows (while very fun & energetic) are the same thing every time - it's such a bummer. :/

EDIT: Re-reading your post makes me realize you meant that the band, itself, is criminally ignored - not that the band ignores their own material; my mistake! I agree that they've have not gotten the attention / love they deserve in a VERY long time.

If that was the most inciting thing you could think of, you're incredibly unimaginative.

    Like, Jared Leto unimaginative.

    Because he is very unimaginative.
