But my point is his he gets a pass when his vocals and his melodies are a VERY prominent part of the song. Like....he's awesome but he just got handed a bad song or something.

 

Would love to have Blink play 'Baby Come On' and Skiba sing the chorus and then Mark and Skiba alternating lines the last chorus to end with a bang like in 'Feeling This'.

But I love the vocals and the melodies of the first verse. The chorus is textbook Feldmann and sure Matt had input, but I'm not saying the chorus is awesome. Or even really that good. There's literally just one part of the song I think is great and that's Matt's part. I don't think this seems like that ridiculous a concept. Sounds like you're saying either all parts of a song are great or none can be?

 

I mean Matt can definitely do wrong. I can direct you to "Draculina" by Alkaline Trio for one example.

 

No offense, but this whole post is exactly what I was talking about. haha. It's not "Either all parts of the song are great or none are", that's a ridiculous misunderstanding of my point; my point that is that they're all in it together, and to act like Matt is only in it for the good parts of the song but steps out when the rest of the crew is pulling the song down is unfair.

He took the lead on this one and the final product came out mediocre. That should be the overall takeaway. You can't say "Mark's part was bad", "Travis' part was bad", "Oh, Skiba's part (chorus) was bad? Feldmann probably wrote that..." Do you see what I mean?

I get it; his delivery on the verse and bridge are awesome. I don't even disagree with your points, but it just irks me that even when he leads 80% of the song and it doesn't turn out so well, I see a list of why it was everyone else's fault. haha.

 

I got 'This Addiction' vibes when I first heard this song lol. Made me wanna listen to the album again.

 

I mean I guess I'm not properly blaming him enough for the chorus. His verse was so specific to him and then "forgotten youth of suburbia" doesn't sound like a thing to me he'd ever think to write in a million years. But if he did? BAD SKIBA. Bad, bad Skiba. And I'm disappointed in him lol. I mean just his first verse makes it listenable to me. But it's the worst blink b-side to date so idk. Lol

 

"Draculina", "American Scream" and "Piss And Vinegar" are the weak links to me. If those were replaced by Dan's bonus tracks I think it goes from very good to great. But I do enjoy the album a lot.

I actually really like Piss and Vinegar. Cool song. That and Lead Poisoning are probably my favorites off that album.

 

haha no I'm with you 100%. But yeah, I just find it humorous how we all automatically assume Skiba had no part in writing the cringey stuff (I'm guilty of it too). He just lead this one way more than any of the other California songs so I mean, if we're not gonna fault him for a bad song now, we never will lol

 

I really didn't like the last two Goldfinger albums at all and I loved the Sekrets and My Shame Is True so I feel quite logical in my chain of blame! Haha

 

That, combined with Mark's output on Neighborhoods and DED... I can see the reasoning. haha.

 

If Matt sang like he did on Goddamnit I think I'd enjoy their voices playing off of each other more. The current way both of them sound is a bit too same-y for me to get down with. They do an okay job on tracks that have distinct melodies but overall its a bit boring.

 

I wonder if we'll get a new video from one of the singles that have been released after SOOHM.

 

HISALP will definitely get a video

 

How's it going for HISALP anyway, is it charting or whatever? Dont know much about that stuff.

 

It's Alternative radio release is the 18th I believe. I think it'll do OK, not great. maybe like a 7-10 peak on alt radio.

 

Watch it surge onto mainstream radio just to spite you lol

I just checked YouTube to see which lyric videos have been viewed the most in order to see whether HISALP has gotten fan traction. I suspect Rabbit Hole and No Future are higher because they were released ahead of the album.
