I understand all of this, I just feel they are methods from a bygone era.

I don't think so. If I were to release material in a professional level I'd also take my time to do it right. Get a designer/illustrator to work on the single art, a motion designer to create a lyric video or something like that so when radio stations play the song, they can simultaneously drop the song on the internet. Recording, mixing and mastering an album are not the only steps in the process. Who knows what they're up to?

Next thing we know Mark is going to announce a new music video will premier on MTV and a contest to win a free, limited edition CD and poster!

EDIT: Sorry, I know it seems like I am being an asshole, I just want to hear the song!

Those are all valid reasons to wait to release a single, and if that's the case keep the single to yourself until everything is ready. Don't get rock radio to act as your surrogate 3 weeks before your fans get to hear the single. That time has passed.

I work in social too and you're dead on. They could do some crazy fun things.

Honestly, though, does blink need to advertise themselves via social media? I know I'd enjoy it as a fan but I also know if I was in their shoes, I wouldn't waste the resources. The band exploded into the music world (not just the pop punk scene, this a band that closed out MTV's VMAs) in 1999 and have been able to successfully ride that. Mark, Tom, and Travis and their families are set for life. This isn't some unknown pop-punk trio trying to breakout.

I wish I could find that old photo of mark sitting on the floor packaging buddha tapes by hand. That alone tells me the band put in the marketing effort in the appropriate way when they needed to. Now, it's just pointless.

Is it really that pointless though? There are so many people that have no clue they have a new member, let alone are even a band still

From a marketing perspective, blink doesn't need fans to know this. It'd be nice, but it's not necessary.

seems like the guys in blink have deemed it to be either pointless, or they're just trying to make music without the social media attention. none of them got their start in the social media age obviously so they probably don't see it as a necessary component to making the music they want to make, and I think the majority of their fan base probably fits into an age group that doesn't need the additional coverage. I really enjoyed the MTV videos during the untitled album creation, but I can absolutely see why they are taking a step back even from that this time around.

as a business you would think you would want to expand your fanbase

  11. I agree. For not actually really saying anything at all, there's so much buzz/anticipation/discussion among their fans already. They're a "word of mouth" kinda band, and I think that's ok for them. They are veterans in this scene, perhaps past their prime, so I don't think focusing on gaining new fans is anything they're too worried about. They must know that their *insert huge number here* fans are going to eat up anything they do.

BMG will definitely try to get new fans and as many people interested as possible.

I think they're doing this album for the love of the game, so to speak. The lack of marketing for the album supports that. I'm just not sure they really care that much about expanding their fan base at this point in their careers. They've done the rebranding thing a few times already and the band has been a mess for the most part, so I'm sure they're trying to distance themselves as much as possible from the business element

  14. Well if that's the case, then I'm sure they've got a big plan for rolling out the new album/tour. BMG knows what they're doing, if Blink doesn't. This is just the calm before the storm, and we're getting fussy, haha.

Any time blink seems to not do something obvious (like social media marketing), it makes me wonder if there's a potential legal issue they're avoiding. For example, is the official blink-182 handle on twitter considered partly owned by Tom? If that's the case, maybe they don't want to say much through there and instead we're getting everything from Travis and the other producers. Hell, Mark might be contractually obligated to not discuss new blink-182 stuff via twitter without approval...who knows.

Correct me if I'm wrong but don't record labels make more through radio play than they would other means? If that's true, it makes total sense why they're pimping out the band to all these stations. Blink has really been off the radio waves since what like 2005? I know Up All Night had some plays but it was minimal.

    Sleekest of beaks. So Good.

Up All Night hit 65 on the Hot 100 and 3 on the Alt radio charts. After Midnight hit 88 on the Hot 100 and 7 on the alt radio charts. So they had some coverage put the push to radio was definitely minimal, from what we have seen so far that's been pretty different so far with all the radio stations getting listens early like we have been seeing.

I think the band is focusing more on the music and just enjoying being a band and going to let the label do the radio push/marketing of the record.

Those dates (4/28 and 7/1) correlate with what I was told just last night. Unless we hear anything different, that's when I would be expecting both. Not too much longer now.

It does make the wait feel longer I agree, but look more at what they are saying then the fact they are saying things. All of them have been loving it and think its awesome music.

I'd be completely satisfied with at least a 30s teaser of the single to get me by until the 28th.

Where did you hear these dates out of curiosity. Really that's not that long if you think about that's only 4 weeks since the masters came back for the single and 3 months for the record. With how fast time goes by these days we will have both before we know it.

yes that's definitely frustrating. Agree the content of their tweets matters most...also it's an indirect way of getting the word out to their followers.

and it makes all of us super antsy haha.
