It's a good product of its era

 

If you have to explain that the love for it is almost completely nostalgia, it's clearly not a good album in its own right

 

I don't think it's good if you have to qualify it that way. If it's a good album you should be able to pick it up regardless of how old you were when it came out and think it holds up, which to me it really doesn't. For that matter, Deja doesn't either, but whatever.

A) We were participants, now we're the ones hosting it (throwing = hosting)

B) We were participants, now we no longer want to participate (throwing away)

My irl friend and I were talking about Deja and this happened. I think the lyric means A, but she thinks it means B.

 

In the context of that chorus, I think it's B.

 

We're concentrating on falling apart. We used to want to try, but now we don't. It's B.

 

definitely B. "Throwing" means two different things when you say "throwing a fight" vs "throwing a party," the two sayings aren't interchangeable.

To go back to the Daisy discussion. It has my two least favorite Brand New songs on it, but it also has some of, IMO their best. I think Bought A Bride, Daisy and Noro are insanely good and really encompass what the Brand New "sound" is. That said its not as consistant as TDAG or Deja IMO.

I listen to Daisy more than Deja, but I would probably pick Deja as my second favorite Brand New album, demos and reworked demos are probably above Deja though, but they aren't really an album technically speaking.... I am now contemplating listing my complete Brand New song ranking because i'm bored at work haha

I misread read this as "favorite song" and liked your post. Upon further review, I think you're insane and need to get your ears checked lol. I would love nothing more than a Brand New album that sounds like 1996 (not that it's likely we'll ever get another BN album, but a guy can dream).

I definitely enjoy the original 1996 version more than the redone one.

Let me clarify, the MUSIC of 1996 I like. The lyrics are what ruin it for me

 

im trying to figure out how much I would pay for that, probably more than I want to admit.

 

What is bad about the lyrics?

 

I don't even know if I think they're bad - for some reason I just don't like them haha. Like if someone does like them I don't think "ah man how could they like that"... For some reason the lyrics just always get me. I don't like the "it terrifies me and I can't take it anymore part", just jesses delivery on that phrase
