Futuristic has one song with 15 million plays (The Greatest) and another with 13 million plays (I Guess I'll Smoke) on Spotify. Never heard of the guy.

  3. "Don't Feed the Trolls" is Bad Science
It’s not surprising the advice about trolls is wrong if you look at where it came from. The idea is based in the principles of operant conditioning: reward and punishment having an effect on the frequency of behavior, rats pressing levers for sugar, pigeons pecking at buttons for food, etc. The advice itself is essentially what was once given to parents of small children who act out. Don’t give them the attention, and they’ll find better ways to get it. [...]

Nor is this limited to the internet. People aren’t stupid. They notice when someone is an “acceptable” target of vitriol in the real world. We’re a social species with a long adolescence devoted to figuring this sort of thing out, and despite knee-jerk denialist commenters on every post and article dealing with the topic, this stuff isn’t terribly subtle. Even offline, this sort of behavior–if perhaps not always this degree of behavior–is rewarded.

When trolls see no reaction from the rest of the world, there is literally nothing in this equation but reward. Who’s going to go away under those circumstances? Who will extinguish bad behavior when that behavior means they’re winning?

Here are some numbers: 1 in 4 women are sexually assaulted.

Objectively speaking, by dehumanizing women with misogynistic words and supporting those who actually engage in those acts, you're helping make that number a reality.

Lmao this argument is pointless if you can't accept that negative publicity is still publicity nonetheless. If anyone is questioning how Attila got as big as they are or why they're on the main stage, just look in the mirror. Someone talking shit on them in a public format attracts attention to them.

You can't counter bad shit by staying silent. That's enabling it.

Yeah, those people who said terrible things, got publicity, then lost endorsements and financial support are totally still winning the game.

I am curious to see what Hawthorne Heights will play. They have enough songs that they could switch up their sets.

  13. I listened to each of the bands that are going to be at my date. The only ones that caught my ear that I may check out more of are Boston Manor, Microwave, Trophy Eyes, and Carousel Kings. Everything else on the list was either complete horseshit (the majority) or just stuff i wasn't really into much.

I'm not arguing that, what I'm saying is that in a sense of art as a whole (music, movies, television, etc) negative publicity is still publicity. Attila is as big as they are due in part to those who talk about them in a negative light. Am I saying that's the whole reason? No. By all means say and protest whatever you want. I really didn't intend to spear head a debate when I first posted in here, so in an attempt to not drag this out to more and more pages, I am going to respectfully bow out of this conversation.

  15. I don't accept that premise because we know that not all publicity is equal. This adage somehow came down from TV shows or movies or whatever and it is not true. So, I reject the claim at its premise because we've got a lot of studies on this; however, the second part is the idea that this thread itself would ever reach any critical mass to impact anything at all. I don't even submit this specific forum to search engines, so I'm not really worried about it being the source of some new group of Attila fans to begin with. And, lastly, if someone hears about a band being horrible people, doing horrible things, and then decides they like that band anyway after that ... they were always going to like that band because they harbor some fucked up shit inside of them to begin with. These are the same red pill trolls that are the scum of the internet.

This thread is out of control today. Can we talk about something else? Like how stoked we are for Anti-Flag or something?

Fearless Records only has four bands (Blessthefall, I Prevail, Movements, Sworn In, The White Noise) on the tour this year. Last year they had eleven I believe.

In 2013 I think they had two main sets they alternated between. One was heavy on Silence In Black And White (like 5/7 songs) and one was more balanced with stuff from other albums. I expect it to be similar this time.

Next Show - Foals April 22nd

Glad you liked Trophy Eyes and Boston Manor, they are two of my most anticipated.

I'd also suggest Movements for similar vibes.

  25. the 4th of July date looks preeeeetty damn similar to the Utah date actually. but the 4th of July date has Anti-Flag, so that date is better than mine, as far as i'm concerned.
