I think it's cool that people can hear influences from a lot of different things. That's what makes it good

"Leave the Fan On" sounds more like Manchester Orchestra than Brand New.

I can't believe someone would put a line like: "It's been a while since I've seen God and I'm not trying to lead him on
But he's always trying to fuck me to the tune of my favorite song" on an album with a straight face

Funny enough, I was on the beginning of A Portrait Of when I read that.

I've been trying to figure out how I feel about that line for at least 10 minutes and I still don't really know.

I mean given the content of the album, it definitely fits the narrative. but it also makes you sit back and say wait did he just say that. That was probably what Cameron meant in his interview where he told sapone that he had lyrics that would make people uncomfortable and Sapone told him to sing them anyway

I definitely don't hate it but the phrasing is quite sloppy. If, "lead him on" had been cut out it would have worked a lot better.

There's some good tracks on here, but overall.....this didn't meet my expectations.

  20. It says a lot about the sort of headspace I've been in for the last while that I've had this for SIX WEEKS and still haven't been able to listen front to back. Car is usually where I have to stop these days. Though I bawled my fucking eyes out when I heard A Better Sun for the first time so I'm getting there, albeit slowly. Where Are You? through New Room are usually listened to in isolation.

It's a brilliant album but uncomfortably relevant to my current situation (thankfully without having 'lost a basketball team to heaven'), just takes too much out of me at the moment to finish in one sitting. It's only half an hour long but gets so much done, fuck.

We should be talking about how great the last the song is, like seriously. Record is phenomenal

After about 4 listens "Leave the Fan on" is by far the best song on this album with "A Better Sun" being the worst for me. Overall it's really good, I've enjoyed it quite a bit, more than Joy Departed.

  23. A Better Sun is probably my second favorite behind Leave The Fan On haha my least favorite is probably First Letter from St. Sean but I think that has a lot to do with where it is in sequence.

Biggest issue I have with it is the vocal delivery, feels like it goes nowhere. First Letter is one of my favorites, pretty awesome when you see how differently people think of the same thing.

yea but the loud full band section at the end is so awesome. It almost doesn't need a loud vocal delivery there bc the band is saying everything it needs to say
