Yeah Jakil is great, I've been waiting for an EP for years lol. If they're anything like the 1975 we might not see anything for another several years :P highly recommend everyone listen to them though if you're looking for that pop fill.

I melted the vinyl onto 16mm film and made an experimental art installation.

I listen to the first three songs and then pour pigs blood on my legs and waddle about. Cut it down by like an hour

cut the boring tracks that constantly destroy the momentum

    1) Love Me
    2) Ugh!
    3) A Change Of Heart
    4) She's American
    5) If I believe You
    6) The Ballad Of Me and My Brain
    7) Somebody Else
    8) Loving Someone
    9) The Sound
    10) This Must Be My Dream
    11) Paris

So actually 11 tracks. Call Paris a hidden Track. The ambient songs add nothing for me (And I usually love ambient/noise tracks) and ending the record with two acoustic ballads is just weird to me.

Based on what the band has been hinting at, I'm most interested in what Mick is going to be talking about once the new ones released haha

then they shouldn't have tacked on another acoustic ballad immediately after to completely diminish it.

My point is this record has no reason to be as long as it is AND the tracklist is baffling. Individually, none of the songs are bad. But when is record is ultimately catchy pop music, 10+ minute stretches of ambient noise and ballads grouped together make no sense.

If Matty want's to make the next "The Queen Is Dead" he needs to make a cohesive album and not "well we wrote 17 songs and we're going to use them all!"

The wind down at the end is fantastic, since each song sounds like an extension of the one before it. This Must Be My Dream is the last bombastic track. Paris then takes the same vibe of This Must Be My Dream, but tightens it up to hypnotic bounce. Nana takes that bounce and applies it to an acoustic song. Then the band closes with She Lays Down, which, after all that came before it, is the only moment it feels like Matty is sitting down with you, and singing to you bearing his emotions and story directly. The stripped down, almost "tape recorder-esque" production of the song highlights that. It's the bookend that absolutely feels like a denouement, rather than just a closer. And that doesn't even touch upon the lyrical content.

Maybe you just don't like the way the songs sound, or you're looking for something else from the band than they are giving you. Hopefully Music for Cars will scratch that itch for you!

  24. Or maybe you're wrong about your premise of it being "ultimately catchy pop music" if you have to cut massive parts out of an album to force it.

But this is one of the most cohesive albums I know.
