I don't understand this at all, this is a music festival. Nothing against anyone, but there are already vendors and such that advocate for various things. It sounds silly to want a band there JUST because someone in the band is LGBTQ. Everyone has an opinion, but they're musicians. If you want more LGBTQ, hit up some companies that advocate and support LGBTQ to sponsor Warped and be vendors there. There shouldn't be politics in music on "this band shouldn't play because they don't support LGBTQ." Obviously if a band targeted LGBTQ directly and broke the law, that's a different story.

What about the aquabats? I haven't seen them mentioned and they have no plans. They used to play warped a lot

Ah yes, the "no politics in music" argument. Classic.

Yo, LGBT people already have T-shirt booths. I think that's PLENTY. Let's not get carried away here.

What is the percentage that Pierce the veil plays after the Canadian festival? And what date would they start? The day or two after the Canada date?

It'd be nice if they hopped on two days after because that's my date, but it'd probably be like 4-5 days after.

Memories are nice, but that's all they are. Prestigious

Warped is a lost cause as long as Lyman is still in charge. I will never attend this festival again after the amount of bigotry that has been given a platform.
Trying to explain inclusion to half the people in the tour forum is also a lost cause.

I get what you're saying. I honestly think you're just asking a question about this and if you are, that's fine. There's really no need to make fun of you at all especially if you're trying to learn. The way I see it, more people want inclusion than to just add a random LGBTQ for the hell of it. If you add a LGBTQ band while still having bands like Attila play, it potentially creates an unsafe environment for fans and maybe even the bands. Having vendors isn't really enough either. It's like having the PETA tent and then having meat vendors all around. It kind of drowns out the point. Music and festivals like Warped shouldn't give the option of providing hate by adding bands that either directly or indirectly promote bigotry.

Like I said, that's how I see things. I'm not an expert on this and someone will have a different opinion, and that's fine. The problematic scene we're in isn't going to change overnight but we do need to take steps forward instead of just idly standing by. I personally don't think you're a troll or someone problematic. Am I right in assuming that?

My overall point is that I think we got stuck in a rut with Warped for several years. Warped really controlled the mid-tier "rock" band market for a good while. I don't want to call it a monopoly, but it effectively was. Most bands had to wait for who was getting picked for the tour to see what, if any touring made sense in the summer. Even bands like the Lawrence Arms that are against the tour were looking for creative ways to hit b-markets or route in a way that won't bud up against Warped, so as not to compete. There was good and bad with that system. It was awesome going to Warped on a stacked year, but over time it's sort of diluted the market. Warped has become this robotic thing that doesn't really help many bands anymore. It's more like, "well, this our year to do it". There are probably some small bands that do get a realized return beyond their small offer, but I think it's mostly become a safe income line item for the headliners that don't get a better summer offer. There's not much exposure left to gain as the headliner on Warped for several years now.

You pretty much hit the nail on the head. It was an honor to be chosen for Warped Tour. It helped propel a lot of careers. Now, like you said, it is a routine. Have a new album come out in May 2017. Play to a guaranteed audience at Warped Tour where we don't have to worry about drawing and focus more on playing/promoting. In the fall, go on a headliner of A markets. Spring time, look for a solid support slot and gain new fans. Summer/Fall, headline B/C markets. Winter head overseas/start writing new album. Late spring put out a new single and then Warped all over again.

Exactly. I think for the meat of the tour it's just an expense increase for each band with the hope they generate future income via some new fans. But with how much the tour has become pocketed with different genres, I don't know that you really gain a ton of new fans. You can go online and know who you want to see prior to your Warped date. You, as a band have to spend more in several ways. At minimum you have to upgrade to a sprinter or split a bus rather than be in the van. You have to spend more on merch up front. You have to actually work in setting up/taking down in some cases. You don't know when you play every day. It's a longer than normal tour. I think a lot of people (not necessarily in here) think just doing the tour helps a band or that there is a strong financial offer to do it. For a lot of bands that's not the case.

It's hard to gain new fans at Warped since there's so much going on. If you're a monster stage band, you're praying that there isn't a huge mainstage band playing at that time. I saw Vanna last year play in front of maybe 50 people while Sum 41 had 1,000+. I'm sure they had days when they played at the same time as Pepper or someone that doesn't draw a lot of people. It's the luck of the draw. It's not like you're opening a tour and you know that there's no other competition playing at the same time you are. You're playing at the same time every date and you can breathe a little bit too. There's no rushing to get to this area and then go across the entire complex to get to your stage. Plus, as you said, there aren't too many upfront costs. If you're a new band and get offered Warped, do it in a heartbeat if you're serious about what you do. You can make so many connections out there, it's great! Plus the press tent usually has 10-12 different publications at each spot. If you have the time to do at least 5 interviews a day, it's free publicity. It's a great tool starting out if you can get a guarantee that you'll be on at least half the tour. If you can get through Warped Tour without wanting to quit/kill your band mates, I honestly think it'll make you a stronger unit.

Underoath just said they would be back next year. Unless they're doing partial dates and not playing Chicago I'd count them out of Warped this summer.

it be nice if warped had more variety of people. Lgbt, women and people of color. There are amazing bands out there that would fit warped that aren't just traditional people.

Absolutely but the problem is, bands like Attila will always play Warped because they sell tickets. Now the question is, do you load the lineup with these variety of bands while Attila plays or do you just boycott it?

If pro-LGBT bands want to play, I would definitely let them play alongside Attila or Emmure. It gives two vastly different groups of fans a chance to mingle. I understand bands not being comfortable with it, but if a band is interested, I say let them do it. It isn't much weirder than having a band like Senses Fail play alongside NOFX like 2009. (even though I think Fat Mike is more of a piss off everybody type smartass than an actual homophobe.)

I'm not condoning or condemning one side here, but a touring festival with 50+ artists is bound to have some wildly different opinions among the performing acts. I'd be a bit more concerned about honesty among them if they all agreed on everything.

Same here. Whenever someone tells me I'm in the wrong for supporting Warped, I agree with them. For some strange reason, they get angrier when I do that. What kind of buffoon doesn't like being agreed with? So odd. Are they looking for an argument?

Although I must emphasize my perspective seems a lot different than most of this site. I was born, raised, and still live in an EXTREMELY conservative town where even saying you oppose Trump could get you beat up. So I was never even exposed to pro-LGBT folks until college. I'm still learning here. But my family was one of the 5 founding families of this town 250 years ago so fuck if I'm being scared off or leaving. I'm certainly not a conservative/Republican, but I also feel like I got a late start on understanding these issues compared to the bulk of this forum. Not looking for sympathy, but I want people in this thread to know that.
