Oh yes. We have come up with all sorts of nicknames for her that all revolve around how slow she moves!

 

After 54 total hours in the hospital, my wife and I now have a son. What a wild, weird week it has been.

 

Congrats! Glad he finally made it!

So after about 12 hours in our room with us they sent our guy to NICU because he's been having glucose issues since he came out, and he's been there since. He's a big dude (10 lbs. even) and they've told us this is common with big babies, but it still feels so weird. Anyone else have any experience with something like this? They discharged my wife yesterday afternoon, but he's still here. They've implied he'll be here for the rest of the week at least. It felt so weird going home without him.

 

We had the same issue, so don't fret!

He was 9 lbs 8 oz and was in NICU for like 3-4 days. We still went and fed him every couple hours just to spend time with him and what not but fortunately everyone got discharged at the same time

 

We got a twin-size bed for my 2-year-old a few months ago. We were kind of late switching him out of his crib, but there was never really any urgency to get his crib out because he never tried to get out of it or anything.

Anyway, he's obsessed with his bed, but he's realizing now he can get out of bed anytime he wants. At first, he was really good about staying in his bed until my wife or I came in to get him the next morning. The past few mornings, we'll wake up and he's not in his bed and we'll go downstairs and he'll be on the couch with his milk from the fridge. So funny...but kind of scary at the same time.

 

Is 2 a normal age to tranistion? I haven't even given it any thought yet, he's only a a year and a 3 months.

 

I guess it depends on each child's experience. One of my friends posted on Facebook a few weeks ago asking what the normal age to transition from crib to bed was and there were dozens of comments and I think every one of them was saying they did it under 2 years-old (most were probably 16-20 month range). After reading all that, I felt like we did it way after schedule, haha. But all those people were saying their kids were trying to get out and stuff and my son never once climbed out of his crib so there was never any hurry for us to do it.

 

My son is 2.5 and he's still in the crib. Probably doing a toddler bed within the next couple of months though.

 

Mines 16 months and he doesn't really try to get out at all. We'll probably transition around 2 years or so

 

Oh boy are we in for it. Starting the hitting and throwing things at parents phase...

 

Thankfully that only lasted for a few weeks with ours

 

I feel like he's too young yet to be doing that ugh!

His feelings are constantly close to the surface too.

 

Somehow mine has never wanted to break any rules. When she was little she would break into tears if I made an angry face at her

 

My son definitely throws and hits during tantrums. Never really know how to handle it but the other night I picked him up, took him to his room and sat with him until he calmed down and then we came back downstairs together. Seemed to work well.

On another note, I know it's not supposed to be, but totally cute when he gets mad and hits me. It's like he does it really soft because deep down he knows he's not supposed to do that.

 

My son is going to be 3 in a couple of months and the kid doesn't eat or sleep. Don't know how he functions

 

What DOES he do then?

 

Runs non stop. Climbs trees. Lives outside. Jumps all day and night long. I don't know how he has energy.

He is crazy. He broke his leg shortly before his second birthday. They said that it could take 4 months before he even attempts to walk because he was in a spica cast for 2 months. He was already running by the night it came off.

 

Sounds exhausting

 

It is. That's why in the video game thread I was asking about what age people introduced their kids to video games. I was hoping maybe that could give me a break here or there. Just in the past few months he's started watching tv and he has some shows he likes but he doesn't sit down to watch them. He has to be doing something else. And if I sit down, forget it. He pulls me up and makes me do whatever he is doing. Going to work is my break. Lol

 

Totally understand this. The entire time reading this I was like "Oh good, THIS is what I have to look forward to???!". That's basically how my son is but he gets pretty cranky when he's tired.

Work is always a nice safe place, lol!

I see you're in SA, what do you do for a living? I'm in Houston.

 

I work in retail, running a Polaroid kiosk. There's actually one in Houston too. How about you?

Things are slightly improving. He's been sleeping through the night a lot better. But going to sleep is the biggest battle. Sometimes he fights us for 2-3 hours about it. But he doesn't get up as often anymore, most nights not at all.

 

Nice that's pretty interesting. Didn't realize Polaroids were making a comeback haha.
