I really have no issues with either mobile or desktop Apple Music. I also couldn't care less about sharing playlists.

Love Apple Music on my phone but the desktop literally doesn't play songs half the time. I press play and it doesn't load the song. This happens wayyy too often.

yea my apple music issues remain basic functionality and its infuriating, like songs not playing or going missing

I also hate how they handle/categorize compilations. When you download to your phone, they don't show up under artists, you have to actually go into compilations, which I always forget about.

    Maybe so, maybe not.

Pulled the trigger on a new 13" MacBook Pro last night. Went for the $1,500 model without the Touch Bar. Loving the feel of the new keyboard and the screen is just gorgeous. This is my first upgrade in a long time—my 2007 MacBook Pro finally ate shit—so I'm really enjoying the speed and cleanliness of a fresh late.

Currently trying to gauge if I should take advantage of the two week return window and pony up an extra $300 for the Touch Bar and faster processor. Touch Bar people: have you found it useful? Worth the bump?

  6. I have the model without the touch bar and I love it. It perfectly fits my needs for school but also for audio editing as well. I was going to go for the touch bar but A) too much money and B) I have heard from a lot of people that the battery life is worse on the touch bar model.

Right, while I was vigorously researching the topic in the Apple Store on their laptops (haha) I saw the Touch Bar battery complaint many times over. In reality, I will be using the computer for: browsing Chrome, using Tweetbot, using Photoshop. That's really it. I think Touch ID has cool potential for the future via the computer, but obviously a lot of its mileage depends on developers taking advantage of it.

Our model is a 2.0GHz whereas the higher end is a 2.9GHz. Do you think that will make a substantial difference for my needs?

Unless the photoshop integration became particularly enticing I'd stick with what you have. Chrome doesn't use it at all yet and even with safari I can't think of many ways in which the touchbar is a significant aid in an internet browser. the bar is nice but far from necessary.

Anyone ever successfully put a VM or Bootcamp on an external hard drive?

I'd love to use a VM for app development, but my quite-full 256gb flash drive obviously won't cut it.

I shouldn't expect noticeable performance issues if I get a thunderbolt or USB 3.0 hard drive, should I?

I ran Windows 10 off of a WD Passport Pro for a few months and was pleasantly surprised at the performance. That thing had two drives that ran in Raid 0, though, so I'm not sure quite how much that helped.

Why not just move some of your files somewhere else, though?

I've been waiting for them to be in stock somewhere, but it looks like I'm going to have to end up ordering them online. Did you order yours straight from Apple, and did it take the full six weeks?

  13. I did order from Apple, I don't think it took the full six weeks though. I ordered day of and they were backordered. Hah.

God that seems like a lifetime. I kept thinking the production would catch up with demand, but I guess not. I've got some Best Buy rewards I'm aching to use, so I guess I might as well.

  15. I've heard from anecdotal sources best buy was shipping faster.

That's good to hear. I doubt it's going to be the 2 day shipping I'm supposed to get as a Silver-Zone-Reward-Elite-Geek-Tie-Something member. ha.

Does anyone know if it's possible to have your iTunes library based through Google Drive? I have 200GB+ of music and my new hard drive is only 256GB, so I'd rather keep it clean and have things running smoothly.

Definitely let me know if you get this working. I tried this with OneDrive a few years back when Microsoft first stared bundling storage with Office 365, but there was always some sort of syncing issue based on certain characters and all the nested folders you end up with.

I ended up deciding it wasn't worth it, but if Drive makes it possible to sync a library between multiple computers, I'd probably pony up for that.

I think what you're looking for, though, is to have iTunes access your library from a remote location to save local hard drive space. I think Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, etc. all working by keeping copies of your uploaded files on your local Drive and then re-uploading them if the file itself is modified. If that's the case, you're still gonna have your music collection stored on your local Drive. You might want to look at a NAS option instead.

I'm in the same boat here. Might look into the link @Jason Tate sent or a NAS option like @rxbandit89 had mentioned as well. I'm slowly running out of disk space and it's making me nervous, haha.

Are there any good cases out for the new Macbooks (2016 Touch Bar, 13")? They seem extremely few and far between.

i love mine. the value of the touch bar at this point in time will vary but as a laptop i've got no real complaints. its fast, light and thin, screen is stunning, loud volume. i recommend.

Is it worth it over a 15" is the question I think people have.

Whoops, sorry haha. I have a cover-up woodback skin. Not really a case but looks and feels great.
