What about guitars? Don't some bands fake the guitars too?

Listened to The Big Dirty. First time with anything of theirs and I was really into it.

What made you decide on that particular album as the first listen? If you at all like 80's speed/thrash metal or some of the heavier classic bands like Sabbath or Zep, then there is a lot to like with the guitar parts. I also like that their music has a hardcore/punk overall feel. And the lyrics are another animal as well. There's a lot to sink your teeth into with this band. Hopefully you enjoy the other records.

My bandmate was revisiting one of their records and couldn't remember if I'd ever listened to them. So I figured why the fuck not right now. For being a 10 year old record it sounded fresh as hell and the excitement and ferocity just jumped right the fuck out of the speakers.

My co-worker who supervises detention in the adjacent classroom came in after to "make sure your students weren't murdering you" which...yeah, fitting

You are in for such a treat getting to go through this catalog. I could definitely see Last Night In Town coming off as a bit abrasive and even Hot Damn! as well. But I think once you get used to Keith's vocal delivery and focus on the music and lyrics, you will dig it. They don't have any real blemishes beyond maybe the first EP and that doesn't get talked about much.

I've heard bad shit about their first record but am excited for Gutter Phenomenon, Hot Damn and the most recent

I never could get into LNIT or the EP

LNIT was the first thing I heard from the band and that would have been between Hot Damn! and Gutter. I don't talk about it much, but I would bet most fans that like the record are those that heard it earlier in their ETID introduction and closer to the early 2000's. It's the opposite of what @cshadows2887 talked about with The Big Dirty still sounding fresh. It's very obvious an early aughts record. Fans that come in later I can totally see why they don't like it. It's more spastic and abrasive. Much more of a Snapcase sound and no melodic parts. Hot Damn is like that too, but it's just a better executed version of that style.

Yea despite getting into the band when FPU came out I still like LNIT but very clearly Hot Damn! is a better, more fully realized version of it.

I became a fan between Hot Damn! and Gutter, but I have still not listened to LNIT beyond a few tracks. I'm not even entirely sure why.

That record seriously owns. The b-sides on that were rippers. I think New Junk and Low Teens are their best records. Hot Damn is in the tier below those for me, which is probably unpopular. I think the only reason I don't enjoy Ex Lives more than FPU is that Lives had to follow New Junk. It wasn't fair for an album to have to follow that imo.

Agree with all of that except I think my favorites are Low Teens, FPU and New Junk. Then Hot Damn and Ex Lives. Gutter and Big Dirty are also really good though haha

This whole discog is crazy good to be fair.

I got into them when Hot Damn came out. I remember reading reviews about it before the record was released that said something along the lines of, "a hardcore/metal kid's wet dream", so I picked up the album the day it came out.

On first listen, my young ears didn't "get it" but since I had paid for the album and heard such glowing reviews, I decided to give it a few more chances. On about the 3rd listen it clicked and became one of my favorite albums ever. Been 100% on board ever since.

My favorites are The Big Dirty and Ex Lives. Probably not coincidentally the two I listened to most when they were new. Didn't like New Junk Aesthetic as much but it's still very good. I haven't listened to FPU or Low Teens enough to compare them

If I am doing an actual ranking it would be:
    New Junk/LT
    Damn!
    Dirty
    Parts
    Lives
    Gutter/Town

But I really dig the whole catalog. The albums ranked lower don't do justice to my enjoyment haha.

    The Dirty Nil is great.

I've been saying it for the past year, but they're trending like PUP in 2014 - put out a debut that goes under the radar in the US, tour like crazy in response, but out a sophomore album and blow up (what will be the follow up to Minimum R&B as a compilation record)

I personally liked Higher Power more than The Dream Is Over. I remember @Deborah Remus talking about The Dirty Nil a good amount back in 2015ish and was glad I checked them out. I still need to see them live though. Pissed that hasn't happened yet. And I hope Europe shows out for that Menzingers, Flats, and Nil tour. What a fucking lineup. So much ass kicking on that tour.

I agree. Higher Power has a much better back half imo. Couple of those songs are Dave's though, and judging by the Nil's past few tours in Europe, Australia, and Canada he's not in the band any more. They haven't said anything though so idk what's up

I wish someone in the scene would start an anonymous twitter or something and name & shame these bands.

Oh, no! Dave is out? That's a bummer. That was part of their appeal imo. Like the Menzingers, there is a balance to the songwriting and the vocals that I find really refreshing. Not saying it will be bad moving forward, but I would hope they find someone that can at least sing to keep some balance in tact.

Yeah he hasn't toured with him since at least the European run with Billy Talent. I saw them at the end of July in Canada and he was still in, but they haven't made any statements.

Damn... We may have to move this to a different thread because now I am slightly riled up haha.

    Back to ETID.
