I made it 6 songs into the new Suicide Silence album before shutting it off and putting on black metal. Talk about a bitter pill to swallow.

Pissed I didn't grab $5 tickets for Darkest Hour when my venue was running a promo. I didn't think I was gonna be able to go at that time.

I actually liked all of Suicide Silence's other stuff, but yeah, this new album is complete garbage.

While I get what you're saying, honestly comments like this really bother me, and I think it's these comments specifically that made Alex go haywire in fan comment sections. None of us knew Mitch and none of us know what he would have wanted. Any allegation as such is to project our own personal opinions onto someone the rest of the band was very close to personally - and use the death of their friend as a proxy through which to criticize their music. Like, honestly, I know that people get too zealous about respecting the dead - especially Mitch - sometimes, but these comments, I find to be in extremely bad taste. And I can't blame Alex for going off like he did in response to remarks like this considering Mitch was his actual real-life friend.

As for the SS record, I'm with coverkillernation on this one. This record is probably going to be deathcore's St. Anger. After a couple years, everyone will try to forget it existed, and SS will probably go back to being deathcore again - and probably with a new ferocity after how hard this album flopped.

Me personally, I don't hate the new record at all - it just does nothing for me. It sounds like the average alt-metal band to me. Then again, this is coming from someone who can count the number of artists or albums they genuinely hate on one hand, so take my thoughts on it with a grain of salt, haha.

yes but all those album covers sucked and everyone stopped doing them. and at least they're doing something in that shot! ugh. i just hate bad/lazy design. y'all got a wealth of amazing artists and designers to choose from and ya just slap a promo photo on there.

Nah man, I'm with you on that one, I'm just giving you shit, lol. Also not a fan of lazily photoshopped artwork as opposed to actually drawn/painted artwork as well. That's not to discredit photo editing as an art, but it's so easy to do lazily and I'm just not a fan of most of it. And band photo covers for metal albums absolutely seem lazy or at least boring to me.

I can only guess that with the album being self-titled and the band photo on the cover, they're going for the "we're reinventing ourselves" angle. It's something other bands do from time to time (see: Metallica's self titled album being their first real transition into the mainstream) but...it still just looks lazy ha.

I was seriously hoping they'd go the route of Job For a Cowboy or Carnifex or whatever, those deathcore bands who've moved further and further from the "core" and more into straight up death metal. (Or prog-death, in JFAC's case). But going for a nu-metal feel is so randomly 15 years behind the curve that I can't help but feel like it's the direction they sincerely wanted to go, since that sound just isn't "in" or marketable anymore.

Or maybe it is and I'm just not paying attention ha.

It definitely isn't entirely out of left field, but only for the deathcore scene, pretty much. The Last Ten Seconds of Life had an album last year that was rife with nu-metal influence, while still retaining much of their downtempo roots. Especially with Korn's comeback from last year as well as the success of bands like From Ashes To New, I'd personally say it's a safe bet that nu-metal is rising a little bit in popularity again - if only due to nostalgia, haha. Most of the people who'd have been young in nu-metal's heyday or shortly thereafter are in their twenties and thirties now, so it'd make sense to me if they enjoy the throwback sound.

Does anybody here like Six Feet Under and has anybody listened to the new album?

I personally haven't enjoyed a lot of the previous records and find them to be very poorly recorded. This one has some really great grooves and solos. I actually might revisit it!

Nu metal is definitely coming back. Have you heard the band DED that is touring with Korn? It is plucked right from the mid 2000's.

I don't even really think the new Suicide Silence sounds much like numetal. It's just bland. Nothing memorable at all about it. I listened to the whole album and only remember Doris and Silence, and that's probably because I'd heard those two previously and they were the only two songs with any kind of hook/riff. The rest is just boring and flat. I never listened to the band previously outside of a couple of tracks, and only gave this album a shot because I was a fan of Eddie's, so I'm not a SS fan that's mad at the change in their sound.

Not trying to shit on them, but it's just objectively not a very good album.
