I wonder if there's a no Blink questions policy

  2. When I went to an Angels & Airwaves meet and greet, there were signs posted all over the place that said, "ABSOLUTELY NO BLINK-182 RELATED ITEMS!"

Makes sense since AVA probably wasn't helped at all by his coming from blink, if Tom had started fresh with Angels as his first band he probably would've changed the world like he thought he was going to lol

May 19th can't come soon enough. (Mark said that was the deluxe release date via Twitter).

I'm always a bit confused by blink's identity, because Mark has said over the past few years that untitled is his favorite blink record (correct me if I'm wrong), and I thought a few years ago before they were going to record the next album with Tom, Mark said he wanted to pick up from there. They obviously went in a more poppy direction and I'm not saying that's a bad thing, but do you think that they will kind of try to pick up off of untitled ever in the next couple years?

I think they just wanted to go a bit generic on the 2016 album, just for the hell of it.

I think the Deluxe edition will probably take them to different sounds.

I met Tom a few months after Skiba replaced him and he was very kind about signing my MTTS vinyl, he didn't seem bothered about it at all. Even drew a sombrero and mustache on himself on the cover art lol

Back in the day when Brad met Tom was when Tom still thought AvA could be a big ass band lol.

That's what I was thinking. Probably needed to try to appeal to the masses as much as possible at this weird point in the band. I hope the deluxe edition shows them pushing a little more. Think we'll hear at least 2 songs before that comes out?

Probably so haha. At least one or two. Mark said on twitter today that the deluxe is coming May 19th.

I feel like they'll probably put a couple songs out there before and probably officially release Sober as the third single in the weeks before the deluxe date.

I don't think Mark was ever really comfortable with blink being 'dark' ala the untitled album. I think if it was up to him the untitled album would have been similar to Enema/TOYPAJ. I think he's even said as much.

I think with California the decision was made to go poppy and get back in the media stream again after being irrelevant for a decade or so. I think the next album they will have the freedom to expairment more.

I'm pretty sure Mark likes a happy medium between dark and poppy. Just look at everything he's done since Untitled; I.e. (+44) on the darker side, his Neighborhoods songs were a bit in the middle, even the slightly darker songs on California were in that mid range. Maybe Skiba will push him to be slightly darker like was on Untitled next album, but from track record I at least feel Mark tends to go both ways(giggity) and run the middle.

I hope one day Mark writes another bridge as amazing as Here's Your Letter, which is a top 5 Mark song for sure

I think the +44 album, the Almost Alice song and Fighting the Gravity show that Mark liked heading into that darker untitled direction.

I really think the reason California is such a poppy throwback is because with the loss of a core member and a new guy in the mix, they wanted the come off to the public as Blink 182. The casual listener can hear Bored to Death or She's Out of Her Mind on the radio and immediately think "Blink." If they made a dark album with Skiba on it I think most casual listeners wouldn't perceive it as a Blink 182 record, but a totally different band. Does that make sense? It's late and I'm rambling lol

I think they did a great job picking the singles. Whenever I hear the beginning of SOOHM on radio I definitely get a nostalgic feeling. The drums, guitar tone, and mark's voice gives me strong Enema vibes. Makes sense the song took off.

Mark wrote the darkest song on that album though. Stockholm Syndrome. And Go is probably the second darkest if you just take the lyrics.

Yes absolutely. It shows you where he was at that point in his life with the blink break up. I do wonder though if blink never broke up and Mark decided to do a solo album after the untitled album if it would have been that dark or more his pre untitled poppy self.

Yeah definitely agree. Mark had also written dark lyrics/songs before the untitled album too.

That's funny because I went to two during two different tours between 2006-2008 and there was no such sign.
