That's not a bad month for Xbox. I'd finally try Evolve if it was free.

 

I can say with all honesty that Red Dead Redemption was super disappointing.

Already own LoF but haven't played, was really hoping that this was gonna be the Edition with DLC so I could get it for free. Oh well, I figured you'd like this game!

Care to elaborate on what you didn't like?

Night in the Woods actually finally came out omg

I like RDR but the beginning of the game and the Mexico section is incredibly slow and I spent most of those parts waiting to get to the good stuff. The beginning specifically makes it impossible for me to replay.

 

That score that comes in when you enter mexico.

Easily top 5 gaming moments for me

 

Probably three or four hours in, it's pretty much what I thought it would be (and very very good) so far.

It sucks that moment didn't happen for me. I've seen video of it and it seems really cool but for some reason the music never turned on when I got to that part.

 

I remember thinking something was wrong with my game or something haha, because it was different from the rest of the soundtrack. Great moment for sure.

 

I got bored with RDR but I get bored with every Rockstar game.

 

Sure.

Don't get me wrong. It wasn't a bad game by any means. It was leaps and bounds better than Red Dead Revolver (although I think Red Dead Revolver had more interesting characters).

Here's just a quick list of the things off the top of my head that I had a problem with:
- The horse mechanics were really annoying in my opinion. You would toggle your horse to go faster and sometimes he'd listen, other times he wouldn't. Plus, the horse would sometimes get stuck behind walls it spawned near when you whistled for it.
- The Red Eye mechanic was also pretty frustrating. The controls were so wonky that it was hard to pinpoint where you wanted to shoot at times.
- Aside from John, Bonnie, and maybe Abraham, the characters just didn't do it for me. Like I said, I think Red Dead Revolver had more interesting and memorable characters
- I understand the landscape was meant to show how barren the location was, but it felt like most of the textures were just being reused over and over again after awhile. It would have been nice to see some variation.
- The side quests were too few and too boring. Almost every one of them was "Hey go kill this guy" or "Get to this part of the map."
- Aside from the main quests, there really wasn't much else to do. Pick flowers? No. Skin animals? No. Although I did play a fuck-ton of Blackjack and Liars Dice.
- The reunion scene with John and his family was anticlimactic as fuck. Throughout the entire game you're expecting to see an emotional and rewarding reunion, but it's literally just "Hey honey how was being held captive by the government?" "Eh it was okay. What do you want for dinner?" I mean c'mon!

Then there were little things that didn't make sense. Such as:
- In the opening scene, why did John have to take a ferry to the other side of the map when it takes about 5 minutes to cover the same ground on horseback?
- If John was trying to hide from the government, then why would he set up a ranch on the outskirts of their headquarters in Blackwater?
- Why didn't Edgar Ross just kill John after Ducth died, instead of waiting a week or so? Plus, he had John's fucking gun! That was the perfect opportunity to just do it!
- Jack's character was so confusing to me. Some days, he would think his dad was the most badass person. And other days he would just outright hate him. And the bear hunting quest made me laugh with how silly it was. John rides up and kills the bear, then turns to Jack and says "You shouldn't have done that! Okay let's go home."

Now to be fair, I did play GTA V before playing this, so I might have been comparing it to that game (since both were made by Rockstar). And like I said, I didn't downright hate the game. The voice acting was great! The atmosphere the game wanted to capture was spot on. And I went through the trouble of re-playing the annoying river mission just to experience the scene where John rode into Mexico again. It just that when a game gets rave reviews, I set my expectations very high. The story had so much potential for the game to capture and it fell flat.

Any game that has an interesting story. That's what I always look for in a game. The last game I played that I actually really loved was Inside.

SMITE is a free to play MOBA on PC, XBox One and PS4. Me and @CobraKidJon are pretty good.
