What pre amp and power tubes do you guys have in your amps?

I have stock ones but am planning to upgrade soon. Looking at Tung Sol for pre amps and Sovtek for the power tubes.

I have tung sol for my preamp and love it. I honestly forget my power tubes.

Nice! I've always had either JJs or Groove Tubes and though I didnt mind them, I would like to try something different.

I'm glad you like Tung Sol.

I was trying to describe myself to someone

I replaced the Ruby Tubes (I think) in my Egnater with JJs. I really liked what the power section tubes did, but I bought the more expensive gold something or other ones for the preamp and effects loop and it actually introduced some strange characteristics. The original valves (maybe Sovtecs?) worked a lot better.

The worst thing about playing guitar after you've learned a bunch of basic stuff is how it feels like you plateau and aren't getting any better, happens to me every few months. Feels like I'm playing the same stuff for the most part.
Also re: guitar players from this scene or whatever, been paying attention to Tim Kasher and Isaac Brock a lot lately, mostly because I'm becoming more and more interested in how one can shift stylistically and still maintain a certain songwriting identity. But I wouldn't say I have a favorite overall or anything (but I definitely do. I just can't emulate any of them, so it feels weird calling any of them an influence).

I ended up buy both Sovtek and Tung Sol pre amps because I couldn't decide between the two.

How do you like your Egnater amp? I almost got one but I couldn't pass up the Vox AC10

  15. MOD 102 Guitar Amp Kit

I'm currently in the process of building that because I was always curious how amps/instruments worked electronically. I'll be finished with it tomorrow afternoon, but don't have a cabinet for it. Any recommendations?

Fuck yeah, I loved PM Today and was grounded in high school on the day they came through Chicago lol, never got to see em. I have 3 LPs of In Medias Res somehow as well lol.

Edit: Lot of bands in that late 2000s scene were awesome as well. Tides of Man, Closure in Moscow, and more lately, all the associated projects of Dance Gavin Dance, A Lot Like Birds, Hail the Sun, Sianvar, etc are really fun as well.

I really like it. The Brit switch makes it sound a lot like a Marshall and the US side sounds very Fendery. I don't think much of the AC (Vox) switch, but maybe I just don't care for Vox amps especially. It does an awful lot pretty well for the price. For an amp which is designed to ape other amps, it has an awful lot of character of its own.

I have this theory that when you've been practising a lot, your - here it goes - soul needs time digest what you've put in. So when that happens I just do something else. I stopped practising sweep picking for a while when I felt like I wasn't progressing, and after a week of playing piano I came back to it and I swear I'd improved without playing a note.

Ohhh yes, love shreddy post-hardcore. Not really a fan of Tides of Man, but I love their guitars.

I don't really have another thing to focus on in the meantime, like no alternate instruments, but maybe I'll just take longer breaks between playing and see how that works out for me or try to learn something much more specific or something. Thanks for the tip

Thanks for reminding me to buy pmtoday's LP! It's only $5 here for anyone wants a cheap LP of an UNBELIEVABLE album. On of the best the genre has produced, and way ahead of its time.

Yup! $10 with shipping, but still cheap for an album I'm sure I'm going to be playing for the rest of my life

I'm building my own strat right now. Today I bought a 1989 Squier Strat neck that was American made. I did some research and for a couple years Fender had Squiers that were American. Got the neck for $130, which is pretty good for a neck that is probably just a liiiiiitttle bit under a Fender neck
