It's the ending for me. So powerful. I can also relate personally to a lot of the lyrics in it.

 

I saw them play Miami in New Hampshire once. Was a trip

 

I'm not sure I have ever seen it! I hope I do someday.

 

Miami is one of the most fun songs they've done imo. I wish it was a regular staple in their live sets. They've only played like a handful of times.

 

When I was in high school and LN dropped I related to Miami the most because I was convinced it was a gay marriage anthem. My Dad had told me that he would never come to my wedding if I were to get married because "marriage is between a man and a woman". In retrospect I was projecting but the song still makes me nostalgic.

LN on the whole has excellent production and was a natural step from WYWTB but still rings a bit hollow for me aside from a few moments.

 

Agreed. Those are the only two songs I'm tempted to skip on LN. I actually don't mind the verses on 20-20, the chorus is what kills the song for me.

As for Miami, the ending redeems the whole "Miami, Miami, Miami" repetition

 

i love the little guitar lick right before the "every hour on the hour" part. there's a lot of great little riffs all over that record.

I agree it's a bit lazy, but it never really bothered me. I feel like Taking Back Sunday is known for their short, repetitive lyrics. I just like the overall sound and tempo of the song- its so powerful and hard-hitting, that I don't really focus on the lyrics.

Yep! Anberlin and Envy on the Coast as the openers. What a night that was! Can't believe that was (I believe) almost 8 years ago.

 

Repetition is a nitpick I guess I don't have

 

relistened to Louder Now and it was so engaging front to back. i don't love Spin like i did in high school though.

 

Tidal Wave is such a solid album still. Hoping next album is more along the lines of Can't Look Back, Fences, Death Wolf...basically that southern rock americana sound but a little heavier.

 

yup, Tidal Wave is the most i've loved this band in a long time (once again, since high school, now that i think about it)

 

This sounds like a scrapped TBS lyric.

 

I wish I liked the new stuff. I find Adam's vocals to be quite a drag on the last 3 albums. A few songs off each I like, but in no way do I think the reformed TBS has done anything to top TAYF-Louder Now era.

Luckily when I caught the Taste of Chaos tour last year they sounded great, and played plenty of old jams I love. Where You Want To Be will be a top 10 of all time for me always.

 

Adam's vocals are SO improved since TAYF though, like, no contest.

 

Opinions

 

I suppose it's an opinion, but man, I really question anyone that thinks TAYF is a better record than Tidal Wave. I like TAYF, I play it maybe twice a year or so, but I could never repeatedly listen to it anymore.

If that record came out today, I'd likely hard pass on it.

 

TAYF just has better songwriting. Not a knock against TW or anything.

 

TAYF makes me anxious these days. The one liners and some of the wordplay is fine, but it just feels all over. Which I get, was a huge appeal then (and maybe even now.) That's why I loved it at the time. Heck, I'm wearing a Tell All Your Friends shirt right now!

I do wonder though how many young kids discover that album and fall in love with it the same way maybe we did when it was released. I actually just had a cousin of mine discover TDAG and it's all she talks about. When I want to be like "YEAH, YOU'RE LATE TO THE GAME. I ALREADY KNOW HOW GREAT IT IS!" I have to remember that she was 10 when it came out.

 

Yeah i won't lie I'm super nostalgic for TAYF. Honestly if I take my rose colored glasses off it's still really good but it's not the masterpiece that my nostalgia tricks me into thinking it is.

Yeah I actually had a cousin discover Deja a year or so ago and he just adores it.

 

I'm sure it's the same as when we discovered that our parent's music wasn't all terrible either. Let them enjoy it and lead them down the rabbit hole.

 

I'd rank it toward the bottom. I don't know if I just wore it out or if the songwriting is just weak. probably a little of both
