Just recently started binging all the Batman animated movies for the first time. Really really enjoyed The Dark Knight Returns and Year One. Gonna watch Mask of the Phantasm tonight.

    Is there an undisputed favorite?

  4. Mask of the Phantasm is one of the best Batman movies period, so that one ha.

I thought Red Hood was the undisputed best Batman Animated film?

I really liked Red Hood, but I think I'd rank DKR and YR1 ahead of it.
Think my least favorite so far is Batman Beyond Return of the Joker. And The Killing Joke was underwhelming too.

I guess you are counting both DKR as one? I'm ok with that. Year One is super flawed not very well done though. I know its a faithful adaption, but things like Bruce punching through a tree, prostitute Catwoman and the dialog of "we are bad Gordon, you better be bad too or else" from the crooked cops should have all been changed.

The Killing Joke is def at the bottom, but man Batman Beyond is more toward the top for me. That flash back scene alone puts it above others.

With just strictly Batman movies, I'd rank them:

    Under The Red Hood
    The Dark Knight Returns
    Mask of the Phantasm
    Batman Vs Robin
Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker
    Gotham Knight
    Subzero
    Mystery of the Batwoman
    Bad Blood
    Year One
    Son of Batman
    The Killing Joke

I haven't seen Lego Batman yet, but from what I hear I'd assume it would be the number 1 spot :-)

Watched Mask of the Phantasm last night, thought it was really good. Looks like I have these left to watch: Batman vs. Robin, Gotham Knight, Subzero, Mystery of the Batwoman, Bad Blood and the Killing Joke.

Listening to the podcast now. Perfect timing as I just started watching the animated series a couple of weeks ago.

Nice! Beware of some spoilers then when we talk favorite episodes if it somehow hasn't been spoiled for you already haha. And thanks for listening!

Just finished listening and have a few things to add:

    1) I know starting with S2 the show changed names to The Adventures of Batman & Robin but is still considered B:TAS. What was weird to me watching through Amazon Prime is that the title/credit screen was inconsistent from episode to episode and they'd throw a newer title screen in over an older episode.

    2) I think partially the reason this has stood the test of time so well is due to the fact that it made such an impact on alot of kids growing up and they want to show their children (or even grandchildren) when cartoons were actually good (I tease, but I think it still stands) and they get a whole new generation in live and it trickles down from there.

Also thought it was funny at the end when @Jason Tate was basically like "okay I'm done talking about this okay bye!". Was a bit abrupt from what I'm used to and thought it was comical.

    Great episode though guys!

Thanks so much for listening! This was definitely a fun one. And the ending was off because I cut out Jason asking if he could stop recording before I did the little "Thanks for listening" bit haha. I sometimes forget to tell people how I end my podcasts if they haven't been on before. Oops.

Thanks! Next episode will be comics related so I'm sure I'll be posting it in that thread when it's done.

Just watched Batman: Bad Blood last night. I wasn't too thrilled with it.

I may take a break from the animated films and just stick with the animated series for now. I think I spoiled myself watching Mask of the Phantasm, Red Hood, Dark Knight Returns and Year One first. Everything else since has been disappointing in comparison.

Yeah, Bad Blood isn't too good despite it having all the awesome Batfamily characters in it.

You should still check out Batman vs. Robin, Gotham Knight and Subzero out of the ones you haven't seen . Subzero honestly just feels like a long B:TAS episode.

And Batman is in the amazing Assault on Arkham and JL Dark, so even though they aren't strictly Batman movies, you need to see those too.

It's a Suicide Squad movie with Batman and Joker popping in and out. Honestly, its what the live action movie should have been.

  24. 1) That's really funny, I've never watched on Amazon, just on my DVDs. I've seen that second "season" so much less than the first one.

    2) Yeah, I really do think that a good reason it works is because it's just well done. It ages well. If you watch the old Spider-Man cartoon it's basically on speed. The stories don't work as well and the characters and arcs are all over the place. Batman just holds up better, the stories are better, and the animation doesn't even look dated. Timeless character. Rare something can stand that test of time like that. And, yeah, totally something kids could enjoy today.

Haha, she edited it a tad to cut us talking about ending. Hahah, there was other stuff like "should I stop recording?" ... and then I said that as a joke! Still funny though.

Just watched Assault on Arkham this morning. Damn, if they had just used this storyline for the Suicide Squad movie it would have been 1000x better.
