Nothing will top Greg's lyrics on OTIP for me, but I get what people are saying here.

Yeah, weakest doesn't translate to like bad here. And I do think he is communicating adequately his ideas. I'm only saying as a group it's not his strongest, batch but I think it should also be taken into account that he's also much more represented here. His lyrics are still good just not his best overall. But consistent is good too

Not sure why but Midwestern States reminds me a lot of Mexican Guitars. Maybe just because they're both absolute jams.

I don't know that TWY specifically sacrificed creative integrity trying to expand their fan base, in my view they just got stale because they didn't take enough risks. I might not be understanding you correctly though.

I'm a very anti-recency bias person so I will definitely reevaluate in a few months but considering I find half of these songs to be God Tier and the other half Top Tier, it might beat OTIP as my favorite record of theirs and will probably forever be in my top favorites of all time already.

Nah that's fair. I didn't think TWY was a great example I was just blanking on a better one.

I wouldn't cut anything. Why is that a game anyone is playing.

Just saw it discussed here earlier. Couple of reviews have suggested it's a song or two long. And I already said I wouldn't cut anything. Just got me thinking about what I would cut if I absolutely had to. Next time I listened I decided it would have to be Boy Blue. Still a very good track though

But in a digital age not one has to cut anything. When the covers EP comes out I'll have it come right after After The Party on my playlist, then their cover of 24 Frames, then the two they recorded while they were drunk for fun. It's the ATP era of Menzingers.

it's kind of hard for me to get over how much the opener melodically sounds like this song, haha. i always sing along this to that one and it takes away a bit of the song for me

This album feels way more like a follow up to on the impossible past than it does one to rented world to me. That album feels kinda like a sidestep in retrospect

Yeah, ATP is the more logical step from OTIP with a little more pop sensibility. However, I really really like RW and am glad they went down that path first. I like a band to stretch its creative muscle and to expand its sound. That growth is part of why this new record is so freaking good. They knew what kind of record they wanted to make and found a team that helped them get there. And now we are the beneficiaries of some awesome songs.

I revisited RW yesterday and it's decent but a far cry from CW, OTIP and the new one. If I made a top 15 Menzingers playlist I'd struggle to fit any RW songs outside of In Remission and Asshole.

whole EP is super good, "get slow" was one of my fav songs of last year. DC music royalty, featuring david from spoonboy/max levine ensemble with members of hemlines, art sorority for girls, and booby trap

they're touring with nana grizol too, gonna see the show here

    Yeah I love RW.

My friend pointed out that the beginning of "Thick as Thieves" reminds him of "I Believe In A Thing Called Love" and now I can't unhear it lol

  24. Consistently is the real strength on ATP imo, but Rented World has at least 3 of their best tracks.

I have spent some time to listen to this album and I think it is truly magnificent. I dare not make an attempt to rate it or the songs but it's completely enjoyable experience all the way through. Tom and Greg both sound very good, as does the rest of the band. I must also say that RW is an underrated gem in my opinion.
