    No Fun. Not Ever.

Have it downloaded at home. Have had "Diamond Eyes" stuck in my head all day. Can't wait to get home and listen.

I was digging the album while listening at work, but when I got to the intro to "Hearts / Wires" it really sucked me in and my productivity dropped, haha. Really cool and atmospheric, reminded me of an 80's sci-fi movie soundtrack.

This album is climbing up my list of favorites so fast. Was not expecting that.

Id love to hear an album like Phantom bride, with gnar solos.

Deftones + Steve Vai collab album. I would die.

After my first listen I'm very pleased. I thought you guys were being crazy with saying Rubicon may be their best closer. I was wrong. I'm surprised by how positive this album sounds, and Rubicon is the perfect song to end it.

Trying Hard Not To Look Like I'm Trying That Hard

I guess I need to give this album some more time. I listened through it once this morning as I was getting ready for work (maybe not the best way to listen to an album for the first time) and it didn't really do anything for me. I didn't really like Koi No Yokan either though.

I think Abe is the standout on this album.

the scary thing about listening to deftones, is when it gets heavy it feels like the floor just dropped beneath you. There is no depths to how heavy it can go. I would list some of their heavy moments up there with meshuggah and mastodon. And I feel like they still have frontier on the heavy plain to plow. With records like Gore, its so melodically driven the heavy moments really do sneak in there with the help of abes asylum-rendering slay-fest.

That man always is. It shocks me that he's never mentioned in the conversation of Best Rock Drummers. His style is impeccable.

Like on Prayers/Triangles, when it gets heavy the drums kinda lead it in ridin on them cymbals (around2:12 and again towards the end) and it knocks me on my ass everytime. its not a very heavy part relative to other songs, but it rips the floor out from the song and the drums fuel this hellish undercurrent. this is an effect that they have been perfecting through time, and its very jazzy through its sublteness.

He's got a sense of swing that most drummers in heavy music can't begin to touch. Anytime I sit down to learn one of their songs, it takes a good bit of time because he'll omit a kick hit here or change a fill there in subtle ways that keep you on your toes. People have called him the band's secret weapon before, except it needs to stop being a secret haha. Dude is amazingly creative, fluid and a powerhouse.

This is pretty much on point. I don't think there's a single Deftones song I know how to play on drums nearly note for note because Abe does a deceivingly great job on the kit.

Digital Bath is the one song I absolutely need to learn though, if only for the main beat haha.

That beat is a career highlight for sure. Even throughout the first four bars, he never plays the damn thing the same way twice! Haha no wonder Vega has the biggest man crush on him.
