    Genuinely don't understand how anyone could still support this administration. They've become cartoonishly evil at this point, I feel like we're living in a shitty 80's action movie about a corrupt government.

    Seeing all of this protest has honestly filled me with hope for the first time since election day. The country is obviously going to shit as we speak but seeing the massive resistance has started to restore my faith in the American people. I have full faith that we will beat them and make America great again (lol)

    I know those two thoughts have nothing to do with each other but I couldn't think of a way to connect them

    So, all of this is connected by the same white supremacy upon which this country is founded. Forward progress via a protest against nazi ideology isn't actually forward progress. We've already fucked with that shit. I love the spirit of protest that we're putting up, but like...(TW because I'm about to rant a little)

    ...idk if people have just forgotten, but nazis starve people to death. They put people in cells so small and confined that most die of suffocation. They steal everything from their victims. They cut the hair off their prisoners, strip them naked, and humiliate them to the point that many attempt suicide. They experiment upon and torture those they deem 'odd'. They line up survivors against walls and shoot them without second thought. They kill people by the hundreds in bunkers that they fill with cyanide. I dare any person to walk into a chamber at Auschwitz and not come out ready to kill any person responsible for its existence. Nazis exterminate all opposition. This isn't a fucking game. The media and our representatives may be set on talking about it like it's just another day, or not talking about it at all, but you don't legislate nazis away. I don't know what the fuck is going on, but the whole fucking world should be up in arms right now.

    </rant>

    Honestly the scariest thing to me today was reading that there might be black sites that detained people are being sent to. If that's true, there are already 21st century concentration camps in the US. Protests are great, but this is some dark shit we're on the edge of. Better be ready.

    Can someone explain why this is so vastly different from Obama's halting of Iraqi refugees for 6 months? I understand there are a couple minor differences, but nothing that explains why one is the most evil thing since the holocaust, and the other not even getting a mention.

    i may get better but we won't ever get well Prestigious

    i won't speak to the individual ethics of Obama's move, but I'm finding analyses that say it's a misleading comparison, in that Trump's ban is not in response to a particular event, Obama's incident was more of a logjam due to a newly stringent vetting system rather than an actual halting, and Trump's applies even to citizens of the US.

    i'll add that i've been critical of the number of refugees we've admitted since Obama's term (not that that was entirely his call), particularly because of the role we've played in destabilizing the regions affected. just because i criticize Trump doesn't mean i love Obama. but, the two are not 1:1 comparisons by any stretch.

    edit: additionally, Trump's move fits into a larger framework of his campaign promise for a full "ban on Muslims entering the country until we can figure out what's going on." this is all the more distasteful when you consider the lives on the line in foreign countries.

    What Obama did actually was "extreme vetting" and slowed down the process so much that barely anyone got in. Trump's is an outright ban. Not saying Obama was right, it was just different. And it shows that Trump is full of shit because we were already doing what he said he wanted to do.
