Mind giving some context as to why this was said?

 

Someone on Facebook (a friend of a friend) basically equated being intolerant of a person's beliefs with being intolerant of a person's identity, as though the latter were simply just another legitimate point of view one could take (like, protected by freedom of speech or whatever) and those calling it out are just as bigoted.

 

I'm still reeling from earlier. I know ppl pull that colorblind nonsense like I know it's a thing but I've never actually heard someone irl in front of me say that we're all one race - the human race bs. And then the blah blah blah my family isn't racist except this racist thing they did. Bs. And she's married to a brown man and is gonna have a mixed baby like I am sorry but I cannot. But any time I say anything they tell me I'm white and to basically stfu so I just sit there and fume silently now. White ppl patting themselves on the back about how non racist they are while exchanging their "cute" lil racist anecdotes like get all the way out and take a stadium of seats.

 

I feel this so hard. I went to high school in a very white and conservative area. It was very easy for kids to give me shit over being Mexican but whenever I called them out on the racist things they said, suddenly I was only "half mexican!" Also it was hella weird when people said I was "mostly white" like it was compliment. That's not how it works!

 

Ur white when it's convenient for them to make a point and brown when they're pulling their bs.

It's funny how I'm white and the other half of my identity isn't acknowledged ever until someone gets accused of being racist and then all of a sudden I'm mixed enough for them to pull the "I'm not a racist look at this Hispanic person I talk to!!!" card. Happens all the time. One woman calls me just white all the time and refuses to acknowledge my identity until she gets accused of discriminating against brown employees and then all of a sudden I'm mixed when she thinks I can put in a kind word for her. Bs all day every day. Sry. I'm mad lol.

 

For a fee I will fly out to Oregon and tell these people theyre racists.

It's from the people who did Bone Tomahawk, they're exploitation/genre subversion guys, so I doubt the movie will paint the Gibson/Vaughn cops as heroes. That right-leaning Gibson and Vaughn both saw something in the project that appealed to them gives me pause, but I'm willing to give the creative team the benefit of the doubt.

I bring up how everyone's circumstances are different and I don't think she understood what I was saying. I think she thought I was talking about the immigration process and I was like naw sis I'm talking like if its between dying where u are or having no future for ur kids and coming over illegally like what would u choose?? Im sry but



And then she didnt address that at all and switched arguments to say oh well my concern is that they bring their culture over here and I don't want the bad harmful aspects of their culture around MY family. And I was like oh heckkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk no



So I was like NOPE we live in the land of overt ignorance where 99% of white ppl's culture is embedded in racism yet HERE WE ARE and MY family has to live around that so I don't think so. And she didn't respond to that. I'm not here for cherry picking other cultures when ppl act like their white brethren arent also out there beating and killing their partners, shooting innocent black and brown ppl in the streets, denying others their rights, and etc. Not on my watch!!! But she had nothing to say so I was just like k bye
