Music, Gaming, Movies and Guys = Life

Wasn't bored by the streamer, he made the game better.

Not extreme to point out what I feel about a game I watched being played, I have watched many games being played and got way more involved and excited about what is happening or going to happen. Had none of that with RE7 and this is from someone who wanted it to be good.

Negative opinion of the game not the stream.

Just seems to me that people can't handle someone having a critical look at a game that they have been anticipating. I know the last two main RE games weren't well received but that is no reason to be light footed on what this game is like. I can't judge it on how scary it is because that varies between people but on a gameplay, setting and design front you could slap another name on this and no one would think it was an RE game outside of the few hints and the herbs.

No we're just playing the game and saying it's good because we're enjoying it, it's not that insane of a concept. Your idea that we just like this game because they've been bad recently is wrong.

Watching a 7 hour stream of any game will spoil it, especially a horror game which relies on the element of surprise to a certain extent. I purposefully avoided watching too much footage of the game before playing it because I wanted to experience it for myself. There's no way you'll fully be able to appreciate the tension and horror in the game just by watching a video on the internet. This is coming from someone who wasn't at all scared by the few videos I watched online before playing, and yet I was totally on edge when I picked up the controller for myself.

Everyone is entitled to express their opinion in this thread for sure, but there is a clear difference between us offering an opinion on a game that we've played and a game that we've just seen clips/trailers of. The new Zelda looks great to me, but I cannot go ahead and definitively say it is great as I have not played it myself!

Horror games in particular are most effective when you immerse yourself in the whole experience. Outlast is scarier to me than any horror film I've ever watched because I was actively engaging with it (controlling the character obvs!) and not passively watching. My friend was not impressed too much by it when he was watching me play, but as soon as I gave him the controller (at the Eddie Gluskin bit no less lol) he got scared and quit! The level of engagement is totally different - RE7 should be played not watched!

I'll say Breath of the Wild is great. 10/10 aleady based on the trailer alone.

Resi 7 is fantastic. Return to the old style which I prefer. If you can, play it in VR. Makes the game even better. It's very reminiscent of the original three in gameplay terms.

Yeah this game is basically RE1 in first person, I absolutely love it so far.

Yeah horror games don't come off well if you aren't actually playing them

Yeah and you couldn't say that about any genre more than survival horror. You're removed from the audio and video intensity. And nothing kills effectiveness of a scary game than that, not playing it, and being with another person who is talking alot too. Experiencing it through a shitty stream like twitch is a game breaker (I cant imagine how insane this is in VR). You aren't interacting with the world. You aren't managing your items for survival. But hey, I can't understand how a game like Dead Jump Space Scare is scary. At all, and I don't mean that to be rude. Would you have been so affected by THAT game if you watched it on a twitch stream?

The Ishamura sequence in Dead Space 2 is one of the most tense things I've ever played, that section is fantastic.

But otherwise yeah DS isn't very scary especially as the game goes on.

Amnesia like games however always terrify me.

Yep, I'm really not a fan of shooting games at all but there are a few exceptions. I agree TEW was good about breaking up the gunfights with stealth sections(which were great!) And puzzles so it was fun to me, even if the story didn't make a whole lot of sense.

Another one I enjoyed was The Order:1886, thought that one was pretty good about breaking everything up. Only part I really struggled with was the final gunfight, which was completely random and different from the rest of the game but I finally made it through!

I tried playing Uncharted 1 years ago and there was WAY too much shooting for my tastes so I gave up, which I was disappointed in because everyone talked about how good the story was. Ended up just watching playthroughs of all 4(ironically) instead.

Never played a Re game but I tried Revelations 2 because I liked the Episodic nature of it but it got hard quick so I gave up on that too.

Bioshock is Bioshock so there isn't much to say about that haha! (Although I used a strategy guide/walkthrough on those too)

Really what I'm trying to say is I like a few but most of the time is too much for my liking, oh well!

Bought a Rasberry Pi 3 today and some cheap Snes like USB controllers, going to whack RetroPie on it and get some emulating going on my TV.

@Vivatoto @tdlyon finally finished Episode 5 and damn that was great! Loved the setup for S2! was pretty surprised that Lady Arkham/Vicki is actually "dead" at the end. I was expecting a moral choice to choose b/W her or Alfred. Also did either of you reveal yourselves to her? If so, what happened?

I didn't really like TEW at all. I found it incredibly hard to even look at. Hated the art style and thought the mechanics were a bit boring. I'll go back to it one of these days, maybe.

I had some hopes. Looks like Division pt 2 in a new area, so I shall wait until the game drops in price significantly.

I was thinking of doing this. But I've already set up emulators before and they just go to waste. I'd prefer to Play SNES and NES games on a handheld.

That's fair enough, I prefer playing stuff like that at home myself. I've been thinking about getting one for a while, just to play old games when mates come round. I don't have a home pc anymore so I figured it's be fun to muck around with one of these. I'm probably going to pick up a seperate SD card for other projects as well to see what else I can get this thing to do.

oh it's super fun, but I just have to have a spare HDMI free for it and it becomes a bit of a hassle to keep unplugging it when I want to play PS4. I recently bought a switcher though, so that's been negated.

I wonder if there are any cool SNES rpi cases. I was literally googling about it maybe an hour before your post lol.

One of my mates is currently working on project to try and build it into an old PS1 case that he had kicking about and is going to try and get it to work with some ps3 controllers.

That would be amazing. I've found the Wii U Pro controller is the best controller for emulation.
