FUCKIN SAVAGES IN THAT FUCKIN BOX Prestigious

I feel like we're placing the Grammys on the credibility level of a Nobel prize or something lol

well, i like obama, but IIRC he didn't really deserve one when he got it.

so, they're basically the same thing

Though I will say, I do think the blink album was better than weezers, which seems like I may be the only one who thinks that lol

    Hmm touche lol.

I just think it's fine if blink is up for Rock album. I don't think they're the best musicians in the world but I've never taken the Grammys too seriously. I don't expect them to win really. I think Weezer, Panic or Cage the Elephant are all more likely.

I think it'll go to Panic! but out of the nominees I think Weezer's album is the best by a good bit.

I can't help but root the most for blink but Weezer was my favorite album last year and blink was 4th for me. So I agree haha.

Still pretty crazy that three scene acts that have been around for over twenty years (panic more like twelve) have all gotten their first grammy nominations this year, all in the same category. Really whoever wins will be pretty exciting.

.....and no, I'm not counting Weezer's "best music video" nomination from 2005 haha.

    Things have changed.

Panic! should win, and I believe they will. Would honestly be surprised to see Blink win ... or Weezer.

Most important part of blink winning a Grammy would be the middle finger it would send to Tom from Mark.

I feel like the main reason I want them to win is to shut up anybody who has said they're hurting their legacy lol

I think them just getting nominated shows that their legacy is just fine, but winning would definitely put the explanation point on it. Plus, they hit some milestones with this album after being stuck in rut for over a decade: number one album, doing awesome on the radio, grammy nomination, and they've been more active then ever. It finally feels like Blink is back.

I can't help but imagine what the album would have turned like if Tom were still in the band WHILE working with a producer like John Feldman. Besides working with Jerry Finn (rest his soul), Tom has always done his own thing and calling the shots, so it makes sense for him to have been upset or defensive about a producer like Feldman coming in and hurting the legacy. Tom's not gonna be in charge that way and I think that bothers the shit out of him, hence the way Neighborhoods and DEDs turned out. Personally, I think Blink is finally back on track. Jerry Finn took them to another level and that influence is what the band was missing after the reunion. John Feldman did a great job in that aspect, but I'd still love for someone like Bill Stephenson get his hands on a band like Blink.

I love Skiba and am excited for him being in Blink, but I still love him more in Alkaline Trio.

Now give me 13 new Blink songs.

    Long Lost Ceiling

I feel like California was an After Midnight and Even if She Falls away from being a legit winner. Not enough memorable tracks on the record.

I agree with what you're saying however I will add that once Tom started to self produce his own music, in my opinion, his music went downhill. Tom, and Mark for that matter, absolutely needs an outside voice to reign him in and tell him "no" or "what about this instead". It's a shame he became such a control freak and refuses help. All of Tom's best stuff has been working with others, it's too bad he doesn't realize it.

Fuck everyone (not actually) California was great and I think is well deserving of the Grammy. Band have been at it for years and the record has done really well. My votes on blink! it really sucks to be Tom Delonge right now

Agreed! I mean look at Ilan, too. I know he's not a producer like the JF's, but he had a major influence on Tom's writing for The Dream Walker and in the mini documentary about the making of that album, Ilan butted heads with Tom, but in a good, creative, way. I think that album turned out great.

I never saw the doc but did hear Ilan had a big part in making that album. I really don't understand what's Tom's issue with working with a producer, is it that much of an ego thing for him?

the ships have all sailed to the sea

I know Teenage Satellites is usually seen as one of the weaker songs on California, but I find it hard to dislike. I really dig the verse lyrics ("You kissed me like a storm at sea, like I'm the only one you'll ever need" is a great line), and the chorus melody is too catchy to deny. A lot of the references to being a teenager on TOYPAJ make me cringe, but this song avoids that for me somehow.

I really, really like Teenage Satellites. It was one of the few songs that felt like a throwback to the pre-untitled blink, but still felt honest and at least a little tiny bit mature or reflective when compared to stuff like Kings of the Weekend.

The only songs I really think about off California or find a desire to listen to are Cynical, Sober, and Teenage Satellites. It's an enjoyable album but I'd really like to hear some darker stuff. At least lyrically, though I would love for them to incorporate interesting textures and try out new instruments/recording techniques like they did on the untitled record.

Skiba is was makes that song good, imo. Mark's "Teenage Satellites" yells throw me off every time and ruins it for me.

Cynical, BTD, Sober, SOOHM, No Future, Teenage Sattelites, and San Diego are ones I return to the most. Runner ups are Los Angeles, Rabbit Hole, and TOTTM

I used to dislike TS, but Skiba sells that song for me hardcore, and I like Mark's verse too. I LOVE Skibas "longest summers nights are numbered" and "left abandoned" lines how he sings it is gold

Top tracks for me would be Bored To Death, Los Angeles (mostly for the verses, drums, and production, the Chorus and Bridge scream generic); Sober, No Future, HISALP; San Diego, Brohemian Rhapsody (sounds like Tom's old school playing, really surprised that Matt played this as it's not really his style).. I really enjoy Teenage Satelites and Hey, I'm Sorry as well

Your last sentence is why this has easily passed TOYPAJ for me in my blink rankings (4th behind Untitled, Dude and Enema) and agree with everything you said. I've really started to love the song recently. And like @Nathan said, it feels more reflective to me.

    Sleekest of beaks. So Good.

One of my favorites parts about California is every time i re-listen to it theirs parts of songs i didn't notice fully before and it makes my faves on the album constantly change. Its really keep up the replay value for me personally, its still on fairly heavy rotation for me.
