It's great, a pleasant change from some of their older stuff. I dig it.

I do like the new Rotten Sound more though. Then again, Rotten Sound are one of my all time favorite grind bands ha. At any rate, this is already a great year for grindcore. Especially with new Pig Destroyer on the way.

Probably a long shot, but if anyone needs tickets to the Soulfly/Battlecross show in Dallas on 4/24, I have an extra pair I'd let go for super cheap.

Call of the Void is ridiculous. They remind me a bit of this other band Unkind. Another great band.

Do you have that link for your top metal albums for 2016?

Call of the Void played a dive bar in Chicago that was a five minute walk from my apartment the day before I moved here. I have the worst luck with seeing them live so I'm happy it's actually come to fruition.

The new Rotten Sound ended up being really good, but I didn't like it as much as Cursed or Species at War (I know an EP is a hard comparison, but those songs ripped). Regardless, it's still in my top 20(?) so far this year.

Speaking of Relapse bands, Inter Arma just put out the first song from their new record. Holy shit, this is going to be a barn burner.

This Destroyer 666 album is excellent. Never much cared for them before but something about this new one really clicked with me. Great black-thrash - can't recommend enough.

Been thinking of looking into this, think I'll pick it up now. Black-thrash sounds amazing.

Black thrash? Is that a sort of Trap Them, All Pigs Must Die sound?

  12. genderqueergorehound

^ No, I've always associated Trap Them, APMD and bands like them as more like crust-punk or "blackened hardcore" - so definitely not the same type of sound, lol. I'd say Destroyer 666's brand of black-thrash on this album is on the "shreddier" side of thrash if that makes any sense. Not to be a genre policeman, but yeah.

It's all good! I find it funny that you don't want to be a policeman but you have inspector in your name lol! I will check out destroyer 666 and see where they fit.

I remember reviewing this album from a band called Razor of Occam a few years ago. That band and Absu are what comes to my mind when I think of blackened thrash. I haven't heard a Destroyer 666 record in forever so I'll check out this new one.

Oh I like Absu so I might like Destroyer 666. I guess blacked thrash would be a more sped up version of black metal with similar vocal styles.

Would Upon This Dawning fit into this thread? They're like a mix between black metal and post hardcore.

I would personally consider them metalcore.

    Word.

I'm positive that Deftones, Cult of Luna + Julie Christmas, Sourvein, and Desaster will end up on there as well, I just haven't listened to them yet hah.

Fuuuuck this rules. Can't wait for this album.

Album deserves all the praise is getting. It's my first exposure to the band and it's easily top 10 of 2016 so far.

    Oh, yeah, touche, lol.

On another new release note, I adore this new Fleshgod Apocalypse record. Not sure how everybody else feels since from what I've seen the opinion across the board of the band in general is a little mixed, but still!

I like Fleshgod Apocalypse. New album is fun, has some great riffs. Not one of my favorites of the year, but it's hardly a bad album. I think on this album they've finally found just the right amount of balance between the orchestral elements and the rest of the music.

Also, the cover art is sick. Eliran Kantor is the man haha.

Yeah, it's a shame how far downhill In Flames have gone. There's a handful of songs from across their last few albums I really like but that's about it.
