The US uses drone strikes and funds/arms terrorist groups around the world (though I'm pretty sure disproportionately moreso in MENA) with complete disregard for the number of victims or their religions. There are Christians and Muslims that are killed every day because of our country. I don't presume to know the person, but I think in general it's hard to even stir the pot with someone of that mindset because you're just going to peel away the thin layer where this person is incredibly biased and is really only thinking about the fact that their Christian (and I would tentatively guess white) next door neighbor isn't bombing the school their kids attend. The entire framework of their ideology is wrong. I can't see any case in which a Christian terrorist attack on any target in this country would not be pivoted to an argument about mental illness, gun control, or substance abuse. But until they pull out of that narrow perspective there's just no conversation to be had about violence in general. The change of perspective happens when that person is able to empathize with someone of another religion or race or nationality.

@BirdPerson In fact I think that if that change were to happen, it's origin would likely not be traced back to a fundamental awakening, but more likely they would be introduced to progressive thought after some part of the system utterly fails them.

I'd actually put the odds on he actually did oppose it, at least to start, at around half. Then someone told him why it would be good politics and defuse the stories about how hated he is... and he came around.
