I bought it on Blu-ray awhile ago but still haven't watched it (haven't seen it since it was in theaters). Maybe I'll watch it Friday given a certain event that day ;-)

I watched Green Room again the other day but the person I was with didn't pay any attention and then whined afterwards that it was weird and didn't make sense. She then proceeded to ask lots of questions that the movie already addressed that she didn't pay attention to.

Lol yeah I called her out on it. Like it's cool if you don't wanna watch the movie but don't whine about missing everything afterwards!

I work for a movie/tv/music/everything company, yeah, but I only work on like 10% of the Scream titles, I'm mostly the tv and non-horror film dude.

Re-watching silence of the lambs for the 100th time. I think I can say it's my favorite horror movie.

    Rebirth

A Netflix original movie starring Fran Kranz and Adam Goldberg, about a weekend retreat that is supposed to be life changing.

Man oh man, was this a bore and hard to get through. The set up is as generic as they come - an old friend comes to visit and shares an experience that changed his life. All he has to do is go away with him for the weekend and experience this retreat.

Obviously, things go a bit haywire. Think of a movie like The Game, but WAY less sophisticated. Honestly, it felt like a jab at Scientology in the end.

The plot of this reminded me of a movie called Resolution that used to be on Netflix. Anyone here seen that? I had forgotten about it until now, which is a shame because it should be talked about more. Really interesting and unconventional movie

That was one of my favorite flicks in the past handful of years. 2012 I think.

But no, this is the setup.

A guy (Kranz) that works in an office setting gets a visit from his trouble-making college friend (Goldberg) that he hasn't seen for years. The dude shows up at his office and says how he's been changed by this awesome weekend at some retreat. They joke about it being a motivational speaking type of seminar, then the friend leaves but not before dropping a few clues on his desk.

Kranz gives in, goes to the address which is a hotel. It's set up as if he's missed the seminar but again, clues are strung around and he figures out he must get on a large bus that's outside, with a bunch of other guys already on it. There is this ANNOYING woman who keeps answering Kranz' questions with a question. I couldn't help but think of 40 Year Old Virgin - "Do you want me to be fucking retarded?" because it was exactly like that.

So Kranz boards the bus, gives up his cell phone and puts on a blind fold. Gets to this weird place with the other guys (his friend is no where to be found at this point) and then things get boring for about 45 minutes. I fast forwarded and literally didn't lose any information.

He finds Goldberg, who is acting as if he's been kidnapped by all of these people. So Kranz saves him, holds a guy a knife point and exits. But before he can, all of the other guys come out and start cheering him on, while Kranz is completely losing his shit because of the weird situations he's been facing. Really not that weird though, more like a sex cult (for some reason, who the hell knows).

Goldberg vanished during the scuffle to get out, but then comes back out Tony Robbins style and tries to convince Kranz that his rebirth (tada!) has happened, and to leave the "zombie lifestyle" behind.

Kranz says fuck you, leaves, goes home. At his home there are framed pictures from the events he's just experienced from only hours before. Everything is labeled with "Rebirth" (thats the name of the retreat), including the food items in the fridge and pantry.

Upstairs he hears a noise, and we get a full frontal of Goldberg standing in the bathtub with bubbles all over him. Turns out that Rebirth contacts high level people, holds their funds/lives hostage and makes them use their connections to get money. So Franz does this, basically allowing Rebirth to steal money from his company.

Then it ends, abruptly. But we're given a really, really, really weird string of testimonials from Franz, and his coworkers (all of whom he took to Rebirth in the same way Goldberg did to him). We're shown clips of his repeat visits to the retreat, his wife's visit, his boss's visit, etc. It essentially turns into a Scientology propaganda piece at this point before ending.

Sorry I typed out that whole thing, but the level of dumb shit that happens is really amazing.

It's pretty good, haven't seen it for a couple years. The snuff film aspect of it is unsettling

Definitely worth the watch. The snuff films, as previously said, are particularly tense. Each one ramps it up to a higher level. I also enjoyed Ethan Hawke's performance.

I took my sister and brother in law to this one in theaters. They won't go to horror movies with me anymore. They found this one too disturbing haha. Made me laugh

Sounds like my kind of horror film honestly. I have so many horror films to watch still as I used to hate them but The Conjuring and The Blair Witch Project changed that for me.

personally i thought Sinister was really bad, it falls in the same tier for me as The Conjuring, Insidious, etc - just bland haunting films that i don't think do anything particularly interesting or compelling

yeah that was the closest the film got to creepy but they weren't enough to carry it otherwise, it's just a bloated and tepid film imo
